VirtualBox Task Priority

I have VirtualBox up and running on my host, but none of my tasks seem to be completed on time; they are either completed after the deadline and dropped from the tasks page, or aborted by the server--can't really tell. But, whenever I have a vbox task, it only runs when there are no other tasks available to work on, even if they should be running as "high priority" because it's nearing or over the deadline. However, this only seems to occur with vbox tasks; SixTrack tasks run just the same as any other project. Any pointers as to what I should be looking into, to get the vbox tasks to run normally? Have you the newest version of VirtualBox running? I recommend version 5.1.14. You can get it from here -> https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads ... and also install the extension pack. VBox included in the BOINC package from Berkeley is too old, at least for Windows 10 machines and you have 4 of them. |

I guess I should have noted that I was looking at these stalled tasks using BoincTasks, which apparently can't handle the messages from BOINC Manager with Vbox. BoincTasks just says "Waiting to run", but when I checked another host from BOINC Manager directly, I got the message "Postponed: VM Hypervisor failed to enter an online state in a timely fashion". Manually installing the latest version of vBox (5.1.14) and restarting BOINC Manager, the tasks started running normally. I don't have one that has completed yet, but so far everything looks good! Can the vBox tasks make use of multiple cores, or is there even any benefit? Click here to see My Detailed BOINC Stats |

Can the vBox tasks make use of multiple cores, or is there even any benefit? We are running multi-core CMS tasks in -dev, they run N jobs in parallel. However, we stagger start-up and also have to stop getting new jobs at some point to let them all run out before closing the task, so there is some loss of efficiency. The details can probably be better tuned, but at the moment I find running two-core tasks is the most efficient. |
