OK, now that a little oversight with server addresses has been overcome, let me welcome you to the CMS@Home application that's now been brought into the fold of the unified LHC@Home project. Some of you will know me from the development project or the vLHCathome project; others might know me as a scientist working on the LHC collaboration since 2002. If you'd like to try crunching Monte Carlo simulations for CMS, then make sure you've installed a modern version of VirtualBox from Oracle, including the extension pack, and enabled virtualisation technology in your BIOS. Now you can set your computing preferences in the Your Account page to pick up CMS jobs. Note that BOINC allows you to set different preferences for four locales -- So try us out. Start out modestly until you get the hang of it -- we've got some changes coming up so don't jump in all guns blazing just yet -- and ramp up when and if you feel like it. Don't forget, the forums are for asking questions; the scientists may not always be able to answer promptly but there are a number of experienced volunteers out there who can help too. Welcome aboard! |

You should be used to me here too Ivan I started at LHC over 12 years ago in the Boinc world. And here and CMS/VLHC-dev since it started (and Atlas)...and -Test But yes that CMS was not working here at first and the server told me that when I tried to get some. Only been doing Theory taks here so far but will add the CMS once I finish the 90 VB Theory tasks I got Volunteer Mad Scientist For Life |

https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/server_status.php The server is saying there are not many of the VB tasks Unsent right now. Do you suppose there is more than we see there? I know one person could take all of those unsent tasks. Maybe I will see if I can grab some of those CMS tasks. Edit: the first thing I see is we all will have to d/l the CMS .vdi of 634.75MB on each pc and for slow DSL's like mine that will take quite a while each time. Volunteer Mad Scientist For Life |

If we're set up like the other projects, tasks are created automagically as needed, so that's not what we have to watch. It's the headline tasks on the CMS jobs graphs that we need to keep an eye on (perhaps not much longer, as we are migrating the HTCondor server soon); if the queued jobs drops significantly below 1000 it means it's time for me to inject another 10,000 CRAB jobs into the system. |

CMS are working fine here just like the vLHC version. I even had 3 Valid and started 3 new tasks up and got past the HTCondor ping without me watching (since I have 3 football games to watch) |

I even had 3 Valid and started 3 new tasks up and got past the HTCondor ping without me watching (since I have 3 football games to watch) NFL it is a Thanksgiving tradition here and I started watching back in 1965 These days we have 3 games in a row so it is 10 hours of eating food and watching NFL teams play. This year it was Vikings vs Lions then Cowboys vs Redskins and last Steelers vs Colts I live just NW of Redmond WA. the home of Microsoft Of course at the same time I make sure all my computers are doing what I tell them to do........so lots of Cern VB tasks!!
