First let me wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I (we) are extremely grateful for your continued and loyal support. I know we rarely have enough work to satisfy everyone but I hope that will change in 2016. If all goes well we will be adding beam collimation studies to the existing SixTrack workload. This will imply a bit more upload/download so will probably be a different project within lhcathomeclassic. We shall also introduce the possibility of returning all results and also checkpoints so that very very long studies can be split into a series of WorkUnits of reasonable length. The last year has (again) been difficult. The CERN side infrastructure is creaking at the seams and we have had great trouble in building Windows executables. I hope we can switch to gfortran which would be extremely appropriate for our volunteer project. The good news is we managed to participate in the SETI Germany BOINC Pentathlon and had up to 350,000 active WUs. I have also managed to build a MacOS executable. Well the best laid schemes...... gang aft astray! but a colleague has demonstrated the use of GPUs with numerically compatible results. For myself on the longer term I would like to support Android/ARM processors and study the growth of floating-point error beyond a million turns. Priority will go to improving the quality of the service and the CERN infrastructure, but I can dream.................. So thanks again for your interest and support which is just incredible. More information in the NEWS forum when we have our detailed plan for 2016. Eric. |

This will Are you anticipating a new top-level project or a sub-project still served by http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/ I have no serious concerns either way, just curious. Thanks! |

Many projects have a variety of applications which the user can choose to run, or not, selectable in Project Preferences. eg. In vLHC one can choose to run: Theory Simulations: yes/no CMS Simulation: yes/no Theory Simulations 64 bit: yes/no Rather than setting up a dedicated project for any new developments, could they be added into that section? |

I would also like to see any new endeavors added to the existing project, there are already too many LHC projects to keep track of! In fact, I would be in favor of them being consolidated, perhaps like the University of North Dakota did with its "Citizen Science Grid" and the old projects, Wildlife@Home, SubsetSum@Home, and DNA@Home. Happy New Year Eric, You gave me enough new tasks to make it back on the LHC message boards again. Hope all is well with you. My year #12 started here a couple months ago and if the SixTrack tasks are available maybe I will get to read and reply once in a while.
