About half way through the task, SixTrack wu's fail because "VM hypervisior failed to enter an online state in a timely manner". This happened with Windows 7 and now with Windows 10. What should I do? |

About half way through the task, SixTrack wu's fail because "VM hypervisior failed to enter an online state in a timely manner". This happened with Windows 7 and now with Windows 10. What should I do? This must be coming from another BOINC project using VirtualBox (Sixtrack doesn't use that). Are you attached to any CERN project like ATLAS@home, vLHC@home or CMS-dev? |

About half way through the task, SixTrack wu's fail because "VM hypervisior failed to enter an online state in a timely manner". This happened with Windows 7 and now with Windows 10. What should I do? Today I download complete LHC and it started downloading LHCbSimulation. I expect that I do not have VM installed, joined the group. So many products to download, I have no idea what to download to be able to run these additional programs. I am running Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview Build 14986 on a 64 bit machine, 4 ghz, 8 cores, and tons of memory and disk. Expect really no VM installed as Reading questions, seems most probable. Help Please. Thank you Bill in Brazil William C Wilson São Paulo Brazil |

Just an update. I am running only 2 cores with LHCb Simulation and 5 cores with SETI@Home plus GPU SETI when available (not in use). Only had a couple of task fail but most are completing now. Only thing I do is before shut machine down, suspend all BIONC projects. When reboot, start VM and then start LHC and SETI tasks. Not sure why but seems to work OK now. Question, do some of the LHCb Simulation task blow up after some time running, normally more than 10% done??????? Thank you. William C Wilson São Paulo Brazil |

Dear All, I have got the same problem with the VM hypervisior failed to enter an online state in a timely manner. I have updated everything but still happening with all the LHC projects which use the VM. Any guideline on how to solve it? Many thanks |

Dear All, Shut down BOINC and wait 5 minutes before attempting to restart. There is a delay BOINC to Virtual Box commands shutting down the Virtual Machines. If it happens again then the easiest solution is to abort that work unit. More complex solution is to start the Virtual Box manager and look for the CMS/Theory/etc VM that is in an aborted/saved state and start them manually. The maximum number of Theory WU that would be sent was 6, if your BOINC client is only running 2 to 4 then you might end up starting VM's that are the wrong ones, so this can be tricky. The newest ones sent to you should be last on the list so start with the first aborted/saved WU from the top. After the manual start you still may end up with a WU that ends in an error so, it maybe the least hassle to abort the Hybervisor timely failed WU from the BOINC interface and accept the lost time and move on. |

Hmm... I'm having the same issue, with all LHC@home projects. I'm running Win10, and the hardware includes an Intell 6600K with a GTX 1070. I've tried restarting BOINC, and even suspending other projects I'm working on. They will typically work for about 10 minutes, and then they are postponed with the "VM Hypervisor..." message. Is this a larger problem on their end? This seems to be an ongoing issue for a lot of people. |

Dare I say .. me too. I just switched over from Atlas to LHC. Never had a failed Atlas work unit but so far every LHC unit, including an Atlas one, has given the "postponed - vm hypervisor failed to enter an online state..." error. no Boinc or VM changes, I just switched from one project to the other last week. |
