Is the available work usually this low or is this unusual or have anything to do with the recent upgrade?

Hi Steve,
Work usually comes in batches, here. Occasionally there are sustained periods of work but more often there is a brief flood of work followed by a period of none at all, other than the occasional resend of errored or timed-out tasks.
Just leave your machine(s) banging on the door and, if you are lucky, they will get work when the next batch is launched.

I set LHC with a pretty high priority. That way, when stuff trickles through I usually get some of the tasks. And if there is a lot of work I'm kept pretty busy.

Go to your LHC@Home project account page, click the SIXTRACK preferences link, add/edit the preferences settings assigned to your computer (probably default), change the Resource Share value to a value higher than the other projects you crunch and update the preferences. If there's no work for the project, you still won't get work, but once work is available and it downloads, your computer will crunch LHC WUs over other projects.

Cosmology@home has a priority of -1.00. I had to set LCH@home to 400 so that its priority reaches -0.92 (-0.49 at 200)! Why is that? And why are the priorities set to negative values?

Dunno. Never seen it happen before. Maybe the value got corrupted in one of the projects database which you crunch. Maybe try re-entering a valid Resource Share value in the preferences for all the projects, then update each of those projects in BOINC Manager and see if it clears up.

Zero is a nice, fixed, high priority - it's defined as the maximum priority. Any negative priority is below that maximum. Projects closest to zero have highest priority, so will run/fetch work (there are actually two separate priority values for every project) first.

Priority is dynamic, and not the same thing as Resource Share.

The Priority you see in the project properties tab is Boinc's rather complicated way of working out when, or if, to fetch work for a project. It is dependant on the resource share you set but also on how much work you have done recently on this and other projects. Over time this sorts itself out but can be annoying when you know work is available but Boinc doesn't fetch any for you.
I tend to micro-manage my Boinc by suspending work on other projects to force fetch of work for the one I want.

Somebody at CERN must have found the "GO" switch.

I guess it's time to stop running in Lo-gear and get the system crunching 24x7 (Mea culpa PGE). No more overnight shutdowns for me and it's time to block new tasks for the other Projects I'm running too. (Although, when LHC has work the Project tends to get the lions share of the system. Yeah, I stumbled across how to tweak BOINC... I think.)

Will it last over the Easter weekend?

I have a work machine that is now crunching away on SixTrack only, with all other Boinc projects suspended. It would be a shame if that machine sits idle over the weekend because the Sixtrack tasks run out.

There are less than 30k tasks at the moment. That is only enough for a few hours.

You can use a resource share of 0 for a backup project. This project will only download work when the primary project (LHC) ran out of work.

You can use BAM! to remotely control your computer.

You mean Passover?

Well it is Easter; however LHC should hopefully start up
on Monday and many physicists are heavily involved. I am going
to take advantage and submit extensive tests with THREE/3 identical
results required (redundancy=3). This will help me by providing
better statistics and to identify the real result difference
problem and also avoid the "empty" results problem. It will
also be a good test of the CERN infrastructure. This will really
help our project even if not doing "physics". Eric.

Thanks for the update ... I'm thinking of this as part of the big picture ... just like LHC needs to be calibrated before 'beaming', we're helping to calibrate the simulations and infrastructure <thumbsup>

Trying out 3 rights sounds like a good plan to test. However, don't you still need to have a total of 5, like we used to have? Right now (if I understand it correctly) having a total of 3 means that if 1 fails, it will not send out new and noone will get credit? Or is it just me reading it wrong?

So it will be 3/5/3 (3 wrong, 5 total, 3 right). Then the least resource will be lost and it will still have a chance to validate even though 1 of the 3 are wrong.
