As of last night, my laptop was set up (and has been for several days) like this:
LHC@home: 66%
Pirates@home: 3%
Seti@home: 30%

I just checked now and it seems that BOINC just decided randomly to rename LHC@home to Pirates@home. Now my Projects tab says:
Pirates@home: 66%
Pirates@home: 3%
Seti@home: 30%

I saw a bunch of "pirates" work units in my work tab but then saw that they were being processed with sixtrack. This caused me some consternation (not constipation). Anyone else ever seen this? I'm not entirely sure what all got changed up. It looks like the scheduler address is still correct although I'm not getting any response. I immagine I will probably end up detaching/reattaching. Will see what happens.

Hmm... well I finally got through to a scheduler and the project name changed back to LHC@home. Very weird. I even tried restarting BOINC before. Oh well. Guess I'll keep an eye on it.

Same problem with me, seems like LHC is downloading a whole lot of stuff which overwrites seti!!:

I just had the same problem with my machine attached to LHC and Pirates. Only thing was it seemed to stall out on the LHC work units and wouldn't switch to another project. I tried resetting the two projects and it gave me a whole bunch of errors that it couldn't delete the files and then wouldn't reattach to LHC. It keeps trying to download the files but fails. Once it fails on the download, it won't retry. I guess I'll have to try again later.

My other two machines are working fine with LHC, it was only the machine connected to pirates that had the problem.

Oh well, Seti and CPDN for now I guess.

LHC appears to be wiping out all other projects. I reverted to a 4 day old client_state.xml file and detached from LHC, all is cool.

Same here... LHC is hijacking other projects, especially Pirates.

Why does that sound strange... :)

Forgot to add... To correct the problem:

1) I shut down BOINC

2) I detached from both LHC and Pirates

3) In the BOINC\PROJECTS folder, I deleted the folders for both projects

4) Restarted BOINC

5) Re-attached to Pirates

I am now also re-attached to LHC and it is downloading work... I'll let you know how it woks out.

OK...

Here is what I have found on my 4 BOINC machines.

1 machine freaked out. The other 3 are OK.

The machine that is on crack has sixtrack v4.45

The other 3 have v4.43

Now... The freaky machine is the one that I went through the gyrations below with. It is now crunching a WU with siztrack 4.45 and seems to be OK, at least so far.

Someone want to guess WTF is going here?

In my case, LHC added itself again - I had 2 "LHC@Home" entries on my projects tab and it was trying to download sixtrack and work units for the 2nd entry. Tried restarting boinc but it quit on it's on instantly when I tried running it. Starting it a 2nd time worked with an error message at startup, but found the 2nd LHC@home missing, but sixtrack app. and work units downloading into my Pirates@home directory. Reset Pirates@home and it seems to be fine now.

well ever since my laptop freaked out this morning and I fixed it by updating the project, I haven't seen anything weird. I just attached to CPDN on this box and everything seems to be running fine so far. Laptop hasn't done anything weird either so unless this happens again, I'm not going to worry about it :)

The fix that I detailed earlier seems to be working... The freaky machine has now completed and upload 2 LHC and 1 SETI unit as well as switched normally to CPDN for a few runs there.

It is worth noting that the problem was VERY reproducable until I deleted the LHC and Pirates folders from the BOINC|PROJECTS folder.

I'll continue to watch things on my 4 BOINC machines to see if they remain stable.

I think this is pretty clearly related to LHC, perhaps to sixtrack v4.45.

Have a great night!

Too bad that the only thing I can add to this tread is..

'me too'.

reinstalled boinc. seemed to be able to get work units.

I don't think Pirates had anything to do with it, even though the first symptom I saw was S@H thinking it was Pirates.

I restored a 4 day old client_state.xml file and started again, within an hour or so, LHC was listed as all six projects I'm attached to! I restored the older file again and detached from LHC. All was good.

I'm attached to LHC again and all seems good, but I'd like to hear from the project leaders what was up. I lost over 200 hours worth of work for CPDN. I don't mind if a beta project has issues within the project, but if the mayhem can span projects, that's not cool at all...

Nothing to add, but I thought I'd better balance up KC6UFM's political message...
