But I have two work units in progress!

Hmm... Is this a problem with BOINC Manager rather than the project?

It's a BOINC thing & I'm guessing that setting is for a multi socket system?

Well either way if you have dual core CPU then set % usage to 50% then only 1 core will be used, I'd suggest doing it in BOINC manager rather than online.

The "On multiprocessor systems use at most ....." is a percentage of the number of processors your system has. Your computers are hidden so I can't see that directly. It will only recognise a percentage which is an exact fraction of the number of cores on the system, so for only 1 core you need to set, as Assimilator says, 50% for a Dual, 25% for a Quad, 12.5%, etc...

From your other question;
Having not used the account for a while, it may have become dormant, hiding somewhere amongst the many server backups and upgrades there will have been done in that time and just needed you to rack up some credits to spring it back into life. (Any time you join a new project it takes until you gain credits for that new project to link to your cross-project ID. I think this is what has happened here as 43,765 credits now show in the stats box on the left of your post.)

OK, I was assuming the preferences applied specifically to LHC, and overlooking the text at the top of the page: These apply to all BOINC projects in which you participate.

There seems a bit of a conflict between

On multiprocessors, use at most 1 processors

and

On multiprocessors, use at most 100% of the processors

It seems the latter setting wins (I'm using a two-core processor).

The former setting doesn't appear in my local BOINC manager settings (Version 7.2.42 (x64) under Linux, if it makes a difference).
