Message 26619 - Posted: 5 Jul 2014, 11:10:52 UTC

Until a few years ago I ran the original lhcathome.cern.ch project, but then stopped. I recently decided to start again (on a different computer from before), so I got my BOINC manager to attach LHC@home. That was straightforward: I entered my email address and password, and I was attached, though there were no work units to process at the time.

However, I'm unable to log in to my account using my email address and password. When I try, I get the message "The password you entered is incorrect. Please go back and try again." I can log in with my account key, and if I change the password I get the message "Your password has been changed", but I still can't log in with the new password.

A secondary problem (now resolved, obviously) is that I couldn't post to the message board. I got the message "In order to create a new thread in Number crunching you must have a certain amount of credit. This is to prevent and protect against abuse of the system." This was despite the fact that I had credit of over 40,000 from a few years ago.

Did you try things like http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/get_passwd.php

Or use the current URL for this version of LHC

http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/

That part was changed from the old version we had 10 years ago.

When prompted, please enter:
http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/

If you're running a command-line or pre-5.0 version of BOINC, create an account first.

Yes, I can log in using the temporary link emailed to me from http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/get_passwd.php and, as I say, I can log in with my account key (authenticator) by entering it on the same page.

Yes, I'm starting from http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/ (always going there by clicking on "Home page" in BOINC Manager.

I attached simply by using Tools / Add project or account manager in BOINC Manger. This points to http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/.

I've just tried again, and I'm still unable to log in using a password, before or after changing it.

Bump.

I can attach the project to my BOINC client using my email address and password. But when I go to sign on on the Web site, it tells me "Password incorrect", and I have to sign on using my authenticator / account key.

Can this be fixed, please?

I can write this message, so it appears that I can enter my account using my email account and my password. Never had any problem.

Obviously most people don't have the problem, or perhaps I'm alone in having the problem. Nevertheless, I continue to experience the problem as detailed in my original message.

Message 27825 - Posted: 18 Oct 2016, 7:28:30 UTC

The problem is still occurring on the new site, https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/.

My password isn't accepted, and I have to log in with my account key. I've just tried changing my password, and the new one isn't accepted either: I get the message "The password you entered is incorrect. Please go back and try again."

Can an administrator please investigate?

Sorry, we have difficulties reproducing your problem as password change works as expected for our accounts as well as a test account created now to test this.

Please try again to reset your password from:

https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/get_passwd.php

If you do not remember your email address that you used at the time, we will send it to you in a PM.

Nils, thanks for looking into this.

I was able to log in using the temporary link that was emailed to me, and I changed my password. I used a 12-character alphanumeric password in case my previous password was too complex. Then I logged out, cleared the cookies, and tried to log in with the new password.

Unfortunately, the new password didn't work either, and I got the message "Password incorrect". So here I am logged in with my account key again...

Hmm, strange. AFAIK there is no limit on the length of the password. I would suggest to try with a short (6-8) character password first, and then reset it again if it works.

I tried a 6-character password, and that didn't work either. I recall I tried an 8-character password some time ago.

Could you please try again with the last password you set?

As far as I can see from the DB, your email address was not validated.
