As I write there is currently no work for windows (apart from resends) is there any more work on the horizon?

Have only 15-20 active tasks instead of usual 100+

Really? I have not seen any work for most of September. And the server status shows 6 WU's, but these must not be "windows" WU's.
It would be nice if your status differentiated the difference between Linux and Windows WU's, for those of us that only run one type of OS.
Let's crunch for our future.

Differentiate between not differentiate the difference between.

Anyway what you want is impossible because the tasks are all the same. They'll crunch on Windows or Linux.

The reason you did not get a task is because there were 0 tasks available when your host requested one. So why did it say 6 tasks were available? Counting the number of available tasks requires a fair bit of CPU time on the server. If the server counted the available tasks every time someone requested the server status page it could potentially waste a lot of CPU time. Instead it counts the tasks every 10 minutes (maybe 15 or 20, depends on how the admins configure the server options) and remembers the total. Everybody who looks at the server status page between counts is given the previous total.

An example... If the server counts 17 tasks ready to send at 1:00 PM and you request the server status at 1:05 PM you will see the total as of 1:00 PM not 1:05 PM. Between 1:00 and 1:05 pm the 17 tasks might have been sent out. Likewise if your host requests tasks at 1:05 it won't receive any if the tasks counted at 1:00 PM have all been sent out. That happens a lot when the only tasks available are resends which is the current situation. Keep in mind that at 1:06 a host might report 5 errored tasks which means that within a few seconds the server will resend those 5 tasks. If your host happens to make another request for tasks in time then it might get one or more of those resends but if it waits too long then those 5 might be gone.

No. In 2 to 4 weeks they will run out of tasks again. During the 6 years I have crunched this project they have never had steady work for more than a few weeks at a time. Sometimes several months go by with no tasks. Some projects have a steady supply of tasks, some projects are intermittent. This is an intermittent project and it will probably never change.

edit:

Now I see 27K tasks ready to send so I will revise my previous estimate and say those will run out between Christmas and New Years. I have a hunch there will be no work between New Years and end of January 2014.

If you blink you'll miss it. ~27,000 tasks ready to send ~24 hours ago and now 0. Not quite what I predicted.

My tasks records suggest there was a relatively high percentage of very short (less than 60 secs) tasks in the batch. Maybe that's why the 27,000 disappeared so quickly.

Costa, care to take a guess at how long we will wait for the next batch? 1 week? 2 weeks? 2 days?

haha, I did install Test4Theory but it has own issues like underloaded CPU and therefore very long time to execute.
other projects I've installed like climatemodelling has issues with reporting data after ~25 days of calculations for SINGLE task.
OMG life is fun.
as for LHC I just see how pause in collider upgrade generated general relax for us too))

Some projects run smooth like silk, NumberFields for example. Other projects have problems

I have a hunch we are seeing a big push now because Eric wants to finish his paper soon. My theory is he wants to finish it before Christmas and that after Christmas we will see a shortage of work here again, probably a long shortage of work.

this is that I was talking about.
In progress (211) · Validation pending (111)

But fun point of this is because now we all have hundreds of tasks jammed cause of uploader05 log issue.
Fun fun fun!

Unusual issue on my 2 pcs yesterday and today [22nd Oct] - 51 WUs failing to upload. Downloads coming in OK. No hint on Server Status page of any such problems. Got any thoughts. My pcs run on Xp and Win 7. Thanks.

I can also confirm that I can't upload tasks from my Windows 7 PC. I can't download any new tasks because they have too many in progress
