Usually though, a scientist sees an event and learns from it. The problem we are having now is an old "friend". Look at this thread for example, from a few months back.

If they need a webmaster, I'm free.

Seeing an event once isn't sufficient for a scientist because the sample size is too small (or something like that, not sure exactly how they word the gobble-d-gook). The problem must be replicable before it deserves even the slightest attention. This event is the second manifestation. Soon (within a year) they will correlate the data, publish an article on it and issue an RFC. No telling what kind of mayhem will ensue after that but it is conceivable the LHC itself will be mothballed due to old age before we see a final resolution.

I'm sure you would fix the problem quickly and properly but you could die of old age before they work through the red tape required to provide you with a login pass. See your one offer is too small of a sample, the phenomenon of you hasn't been replicated therefore there is no data to correlate. Best case scenario: they're 2 years away from an article on the you-ness of you and an RFC. Don't give up. In CERN terms you're nearly in the door ;)

Answer: to convince the project admins that this is a real problem that affects a LOT of users and is not going to go away on its own, so they need to stop ignoring it. Clearly they know about it: it's been going on for several days now, and numerous private messages have been sent to several of them. Also, the Tasks-in-Progress keep growing, so somebody's there. Yet they have told us nothing, and it's still broken. So it appears that they don't consider this important yet, even just to communicate to us volunteers. Even worse, this problem has apparently happened before.
So, that's the point of writing the same kind of message again and again. Until they believe that this is a big problem that needs to be fixed!

Possibly but I don't hear frustration in their posts so I think it is something different that motivates them. I think it is fulfillment of the sentiment expressed in your sig. Seriously I do, except they're not truly demented according to my definition of demented. I think I know what their dream might be, do you?

I have 60 CPUs running for BOINC (I am a modest user),
and 141 tasks waiting to be uploaded since... I guess than 3 days ago.
The earliest due date is the 29th.
If I can not upload them, definitively I will suspend the project in all my computers, and I would be happy if every user do the same. Other projects could use that wasted time.
But if nobody replies even to say: "hey, we are looking at this",
I don't know when I am going to click the "resume" button.

Does it sound frustrated?

Well they're going to want the results at some point!

Meanwhile, as most of the regular crunchers fill up with backed-up tasks at their maximum ration of active wus, the rate of completion of work will grind to a near halt - apart from the hundred or so new users added each day. /p

I have two PC's now that are backed up on WU that are trying to upload. Error message is stating that there is a problem with the server;

Answer: to convince the project admins that this is a real problem that affects a LOT of users and is not going to go away on its own, so they need to stop ignoring it. Clearly they know about it: it's been going on for several days now, and numerous private messages have been sent to several of them.

You assume too much. They don't necessarily drop in here everyday. Also PMs are not forwarded to their private email addresses unless they set their prefs that way. Even if their PMs forward to their email inbox they don't necessarily read that inbox everyday. And even if they do they might have othetr messages in that inbox that appear more urgent. Don't assume that we are the most important people in their world just because we are BOINCers.

Also, the Tasks-in-Progress keep growing, so somebody's there.

Again you assume too much. If there are sufficient Tasks-Ready-To-Send the Tasks-In-Progress can grow until they reach the limit. Don't assume what that limit is and don't assume plenty of crunchers won't do all sorts of weird/innovative/stupid things that render that limit inefffective.

So it appears that they don't consider this important yet, even just to communicate to us volunteers.

You don't realize that like the rest of us you've gone down the rabbit hole, Alice. Here nothing is what it appears to be.

Even worse, this problem has apparently happened before.

OK, now I'm hearing some anger and frustration :)

One final thought... don't assume that any one of them can fix the problem. I have a strong hunch only 1 of the whole lot has the permissions required to fix this and it might take a while before he can even be contacted.

I like Pink Floyd but I can't say I'm familiar with that song's lyrics so I'm not sure what Pink Floyd meant by those words.

I think the dream is they long to be part of the community and say something profound/intelligent/cogent in these fora but their fear of blowing it prevents them from saying anything until they come across an error msg in a log somewhere. Jackpot! They can quote that message here and if it blows back on them they can blame it on whatever/whoever misled them by putting that message in their log.

They are the sheep in the song's title. They see someone else post about the problem, they check their own log and see they are in and then they post too, like sheep. But they won't post in the same thread, no, they post in whatever thread was last posted in and frequently do so even if that thread's topic is totally unrelated.

Not too be harsh, just trying to make sense of what I see going on here. God bless all of you for taking the time to donate your computers' spare resources to such worthy causes. It takes all kinds: sheep, kittens, eggheads, perverts, whatever, it's all good, love y'all :)

True but the inverse cubic relationship between the tertiary and quaternary indicia indicates a Hall-Witherspoon cognitive field is distorting the secondary indicia so those should be ignored according to the Framstein protocol, no?

Please mention to the others, depending on how this topic turn out (people not having reread everything before posting), that there was an Admin answer within this topic in message 25980 of here, so now we know the problem is under work/known.

There's also a front-page news acknowledgement that the problem is known, which will hopefully discourage at least some of the me-too posters.
