yeah, i'm having problems getting Einstein@Home Gravitational Wave work for the CPU too right now...and errors are starting to show up at Test4Theory@Home too. so i find myself in unfamiliar territory - i'm having to run a CPU project that i've never run before...looks like i'm going to try my hand at World Community Grid until things get back to normal here, @ Einstein, and @ Test4Theory. |

Hey there, I've been supporting WCG for quite a while. My impression is that they have found actual uses for some of the the simulation results. The hard part is to pick a sub-project. They have a system requirements page that lists the expected CPU, Ram and disk utilizations. I found that helpful in picking projects for older, smaller PCs. Oh yes, the countdown continues: 22 Dec 2012 | 19:18:31 UTC Tasks ready to send --------------------0 Tasks in progress -------------------- 63 Workunits waiting for validation ------ 0 Workunits waiting for assimilation ---- 0 Workunits waiting for file deletion --- 0 Tasks waiting for file deletion ------- 0 Transitioner backlog (hours) ---------- 0 Happy Holidays.. I am running Test4Theory@home on 2 Linux boxes with no problem. I am using VirtualBox 4.2.6 which seems to give problems to the new wrapper, still in beta test.I am still using the old wrapper. But I am also running Einstein@hone, Albert@home, SETI@home and climateprediction.net, so I am never out of work. Tullio |

Hi, I am using three projects from World Community Grid - all of which doing drug research. Be thankful for what WUs you have....I haven't had a work unit for weeks! |

31 Dec 2012 | 5:16:35 UTC -- down to Tasks in progress --- 6 and no users in the last 24 hours. I'm crunching WCG, Seti, and Malaria Control in the meantime. I hope all the volunteers have had a great holiday - and best wishes for a happy, new year. Jay |

I've not had any LHC work units since mid-December, and that was only one small batch of three. There was a long period before that with none. Shades of Spinhenge at Home, which hasn't had any work units for over a year. I've set up the machine with another six projects to keep it busy doing something useful. |

Have a look at the news. It is a bit short but Eric hit several things which hold him up. His PC broke down. Really bad without the bakups all would be gone. Then CERN is closing their doors always one time per year for two weeks. That is right now so nothing to expect for the next week. After that we shall see how long it takes the crew to get new data flowing. But it may be that if Eric has his current studies complete that he will first do the analysis and only then create new WUs with adjusted parameters based on the studies. If that is the case it may take another.....eh.....hopefully not too long. No idea how long such analysis take. Christoph |

Christoph, Thank you for the update. Meanwhile, it looks like 3 WU from months ago may be stuck on a computer that is no longer running. 7 Jan 2013 | 23:36:34 UTC and 3 WU still remain. Could those be reassigned? Or, is the data no longer needed? Thanks!!! Jay |

They should still be needed. Since I'm a volunteer like you I cannot do anything. All I did was to sent a PM to Eric whom is one of the project sientist. Since CERN is closed I guess this will only be adressed after re-opening. Eric or one of the other scientist will propably be able to shorten the deadline of these units for that they time out and get re-assinged. If they feel the need for it. If the BOINc server is working correctly it should sort itself out when the deadline is reached. EDIT: If you know a user how have one of the units you can try to PM this one. Maybe he/she has the email notification turned on and will get the message. If it will help? No idea. Depends to that person. Christoph |

I found some stuck WUs which mean the number on the server status page may be wrong. Will report these to Eric Mcintosh the sientist which gave us all the work last year and will have more hopefully end of this month. With 'stuck' I mean they were validated but there is one more result which was propably late. That one is still waiting for validation. It needs to be re-checked or manualy removed. I think people are frustrated because there's been no steady work for over 2 months and no word on why or when things might return to normal. Eric hasn't posted on the MB since 5 Nov, and that cryptic news message doesn't explain much of anything. The 2 weeks of CERN closure doesn't explain 2 months of WU numbers varying between "very few" and "none". If there's no work to give, that's fine by me, but it'd be nice to know for certain rather than guessing. |

I have more than enough work to do. Of course I also crunch for SETI@Home, Einstein@Home and the Test4Theory@Home (T4T) projects. Maybe those that are waiting for something to do need to get out more. T4T can be kind of interesting because it executes the Oracle VirtualMachine as a BOINC Task and then runs CERN work under the BOINC_VM. LHC@Home has always been a bit episodic in having work available. The large about we experienced in the recent past was (I believe) due to testing by Eric (I could be wrong) and making sure that everything was okay in anticipation of getting work from CERN as part of their upgrades. Right now I have LHC@Home Suspended so BOINC doesn't bother trying to get work. I periodically check the Server Status to see what is happening. Once something starts to happen then I'll be back in the pool. Remember, "Man does not live by LHC@Home alone." |
