I'm running LHC (and Einstein@Home) on a machine that has very intermittent internet access. I've set my preferences accordindly:
Average time between internet connections: 10 days
Additional days work: 10 days
These are for "work" computers and this machine has been placed into that category (I've confirmed this several times).

Despite these settings, LHC, and to a lesser extent, E@H downloads insufficient data. The LHC download about 40hrs of work (so not even two days!) and E@H downloaded about 115hrs of work - between them thats less than a week.
Not only that, the data it downloads for LHC is actually about 9hrs less than a week.
Is this is a project-specific issue or a BOINC issue?

This is a project specific thing. Atleast for LHC. You are only allowed to have 4 tasks per core "in progress". So thats why you can't get work for 2x10 days.

Besides, the work deadline for LHC is 7 days, so if you request 20 days (10 day buffer and 10 additional), then you will fail to do 13 days of work, which will just get thrown out. This is one of the reasons there is this limit.

This project is build for small answer times and low cache. So the computers that are not online atleast every 6 days, will not be able to participate in this project. The rest of your computers are appreciated a lot though.
