Message 24820 - Posted: 12 Sep 2012, 12:32:46 UTC - in response to Message 24763.

I'm sorry, a 4-day deadline for estimated 100 hours of runtime is too short for my computer. I aborted the task 2813528.

Bye, Grubix.

These WUs are not the standard, mostly you will get shorter ones.
My 100 hours estimate completed after about 39 hours.
I don't know if it hit the wall or completed succesful.

My understanding is the Remaining time you see when the Task initially starts is based on the "best guess" by BOINC. As the Task progresses the Remaining time is adjusted downward based on how well your systems crunches. However, I'm not sure that the Total time (Elapsed + Remaining) changes if you're running 7x24. I shutdown nightly and when the Tasks wake up the next day I tend to notice the lower Remaining time. (Of course Elapsed Time just starts from where it left off.)

An example are the three Tasks I am running. These started out showing 80 hrs but on restarting this morning the total time (Elapsed + Remaining) showed just under 50 hrs.

I,ve had a few long WU's but today I'm getting a lot of very short ones. Are they hitting the wall or are they just short? They are all in the same grouping just a different unit! Pick

Yes; I am running a couple of studies with a "big" bunch charge.
They apparently hit the chaotic boundary rather early especially
at higher amplitudes. Not to worry, there will be a lot more
work (and more stable) this weekend.

I've got an interesting pair of long (10^7) resends on one machine.

wlxu2_nuebb0__36__s__64.31_59.32__5.5_6__7__3_1_sixvf_boinc50920_2
wlxu7_nuebb0__45__s__64.31_59.32__6_6.5__7__12_1_sixvf_boinc37816_3

The wlxu2, from a WU created on 5 Sep 2012, has been given the short 4-day deadline: the wlxu7, WU created 22 Aug 2012, has a much more relaxed 7 day deadline. Whatever you were doing on 22 Aug, Eric, it was much kinder to BOINC's scheduling.

I managed to beat that monster: WU 2931351
I wish good luck to the one who still have around 8 hours before his deadline.

Hi Richard; always good to hear from you.
In fact only wlxu7 are very long (wlxu2 are "only" maximum one million turns).
In fact I should send a news about wlxu7. I am not submitting any more wlxu7 as I said
before. Indeed I have submitted and completed 90% of all the wlxu7 cases. This is good
enough for a first look. Still waiting for a decision on whether we split ten million
turns into ten runs or create a new sub-project. The problem is that now all wlxu7 cases
are validated I fear you may not receive any credit, if you care. On the 22nd August there
was a BOINC meeting at CERN, but since there are no minutes! who knows what I did
afterwards:-) Anyway feel free to kill it; I am afraid BOINC may never send it back to me.
Regards. Eric.

It's all right - they both went to my new, very fast, box. Both finished in well under a day, both validated, both got credit.
