It might be nice for someone to come and tell us what the future looks like for LHC and for this project, how what happens at the LHC might relate to the ilc collider when it is up.

There's a lot posted in the "about the science" thread, also the "communication" thread, and more sixtrack project explanations linked from the main page and also in the posts mentioned.

The "communications" thread is a little dated, but I don't think the goals have changed much. The discovery of the [possibly? probably?] Higgs boson has dramatically changed the public's perception of LHC and has focused their efforts on verification and followup. Sixtrack relates to the stability of the collider, and contributes operationally and also in design of enhancements for the LHC hardware if I understand it right. Their new project, test4theory, simulates the collisions. I would expect the nature of workunits to change more in that project, although I believe the changes would be gradual.

Ben Segal has written that, when the Higgs boson clamor subsides, he will try to get us some real data from the ATLAS experiment. This in T4T.

Well as far as SixTrack is concerned the future is now.
The LHC has been running at 3.5 Tev per beam and this
year at 4 Tev. The design goal was 7Tev per beam but after
the "accident" these reduced energies have been used.
(Hope I've got the numbers right.) The lHC will be shutdown
towards the end of this year for almost 2 years to install
an upgrade to reach the original design energy. The Accelerator
Beam Physicists are busy studying various options for the
upgrade. I hope BOINC will play a strong role in providing the
computer capacity for these studies, especially for beamp-beam
effects.

Any news of what "Sixtrack" will be doing now as the preparations for 2015 move forward? There was a fair amount of work for us in as recently as late Nov.- early Dec., but it seems now to have fallen off.

There was a nice article in Symmetry Magazine in Sept and re-posted a couple days ago about the LHC's future. I did a post on it, http://sciencesprings.wordpress.com/2012/12/17/from-symmetry-scientists-already-planning-for-lhc-long-shutdown-2/.

So, maybe you guys can tell us if we will be a part of the preparations, running simulations, etc.

Thanks.

LHC was shut down for 2 years on December 17. But there are tons of data still to be analyzed. An update will be presented in March at the Moriond Meeting in the Italian Alps at La Thuile. Meanwhile a Happy Christmas to all.

I read on the CERN site that they wanted to increase the beam intensity and collision frequency, these seem to be linked closely to SixTrack.

One would hope, for sure.
