Message 24242 - Posted: 10 Jul 2012, 23:16:00 UTC

I keep getting the same error reports too. I've not been able to get any new units all day. Any idea when it'll get fixed?
Here is a selection of what I get.

Total panic here at least on my part. I have taken the risk of submitting new
work now that problems with disk space and permissions are resolved. We shall
see in the morning if HTTP errors and failed loads persist. After that we can maybe look at the issues around sse2/sse3 and all the various "flags" and the
BOINC code for deciding which executable to send, and mabe even the MAC issues
after that. If time permits we shall try and use the (very) expensive MAC I
bought so that I could try BOINC on it. Eric.
P/S. I don't know what we can do baout credits, which are surely deserved by anyone who has persited nthroughout these problems.

Same, not getting anything for the past while. There are about 4500 tasks at the time of this posting.

Well I don't know the details here but....in order to improve
turnround the scheduler sends some mwork (the second copy?) to
"good" guys. Who is a good guy. Fast, reliable, ...???? We are looking
at this. In the meantime I am submitting new work to see if that
helps. I believe the problems with disk space, http errors are
solved and we are now looking at optimising, tuning, and sending
the correct executable to you. Eric.

That will be the 'reliable host' mechanism:

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/ProjectOptions#Acceleratingretries

It's not the second copy which gets the treatment, but the replacements which are created after an error/timeout/inconclusive validation.

OK; I think we have made significantv progress with
everything else and we are now looking at MACs.
I think we must have generated code that runs only on MacBook Pro
or something. Bus error I suppose is an illegal instruction!
Hopefully more news soon. Eric.

Just "pumped" the Project and got two new Tasks. Long Remaining time (43+ hrs) but it is already coming down as BOINC estimates the work better.

I got 3 SSE2 WU's one is ready after 6 hours and 2 minutes.
But, yes you guess, it won't upload, 36.36% and that's it.
Just like the other bunch my PC's crunched.

Well I like the LHC but I will give the time to Rosetta to something for medicine, because my patiens with this project is totally over, at least for the rest of the summer...
I will wait one more our if it uploads and then I quit the remainder and detach this pc as well for the last time..

Bye

PS: and a new WU runnig high priority as it takes 22.50 hour the complete (deadline 19 July (wich I never meet as it won't upload))

Not getting new Tasks again.

I got two Tasks earlier, completed them and reported their results. One has been validated the 2nd is waiting for validation. I tried pumping the Project but received no new tasks in-spite of the fact that there are 11,000+ showing as available.

Am I realy the only one with this problem?

I don't know but in the last 24 hrs I haven't noticed any uploading problems on any of my hosts. Also, there don't seem to be others with the same problem. I would think this makes it rather likely that the problem is somewhere at your end.

In another thread you mentioned that your firewall was complaining about the download of the executable. Is it possible that it's also messing with uploads? Have you tried completely disabling it temporarily to see if it makes any difference?

Another thing to try (if your computer is reasonably portable) is a friend or colleague's internet connection to see if that gets things moving.

Just some random thoughts ...

Cheers,
Gary.

Thanks Gary for some answers/suggestions!

The firewal was only complaning about the SSE2 app. Einstein@home and MilkyWay@home work flawlessly on the SAME pc. Other PC's in my network with the same firewall and setting run Einstein and Rosetta without problems.
Even one PC will run LHC (is it doing now) and will also upload.

So I should think my network is okay, not?

So that is wy I don't understand.
Only differences are OS and BOINC version.

One pc with the problems has Vista home x64 on an AMD. I have updated BOINC to the latest (not Beta) and restarted the pc. I wait if LHC will upload now.

Where are no problems is Win7 x64 Ultimate on an i7 with latest beta BOINC (for Albert@home) and the other: Vista Ultimate x64 on an i7 with BOINC 6.10.60

Oh and all PC's have enough disk space free for BOINC.
And yes I switched the firewal completely of for a couple of hours with no joy, flushed DNS and restarted BOINC and booted the PC and even turned the pc of for a few minutes. Nothing helped to get the LHC Wu's to upload while Einstein@home is working like a speed train!

TJ
