I guess the upload server needs a kick, as uploading is going very very slow at the moment.
No problem at my end as the other projects run smoothly and upload fine.

After two days of waiting on uploading the tasks for LHC and flushing my DNS, booting the PC several times, restarting BOINC several times, still no joy.
However my main project: Einstein@home is working flawlessly, so it cannot be anything wrong on my end.
I also don't believe that I am the only node that is not able to ubload, so please crunchers, check your BOINC tray.

I did a detach and reatach last week, when the wu's won't upload and now I have the same problem, while my other projects are runing without problem. So I will stay with those projects.

Seems to be working properly here too ... but I have run into issues before where a specific project just doesn't seem to "play properly" with certain other projects. Suprisingly, it's SETI that gives me the most problems in that area (completed work not uploading)

If I've lived this long, I've gotta be that old

This is a part of the list. It is trying to upload for 4 days now less tahn 37% complete. I did a reboot, flush dns in the meantime but no joy.
Einstein and Rosetta upload smoothly on the same pc with the same settings for a long time.

One WU was already to late as it won't upload and 7 more will be to late if they don't upload. Can the admins give a solution, or don't you want my computer to crunch. I have this problem often and only with LHC. Why?

Message 24008 - Posted: 29 Jun 2012, 6:58:44 UTC - in response to Message 24007.

Do you have an alternative PC where you could upload the WUs from? There are ways to move your BOINC installation to a alternative PC.

Also, please check if you have a firewall on your PC, on your Router.
Please also check the "hosts" file. Maybe it contains false entries.
On Windows, it can be found in the C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc path. If you find lhc related entries there, remove them, because they could override your DNS settings.

also, please ping:
lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch
for me, it resolves to: boinc05.cern.ch (128.142.128.22)

hope I can help. you may also contact me with a friend request, so I can give you my email.

Cheers,

Hello Sysfried,

Thanks for your help so far.
Yes I have a firewall, it is the same for a year and at the same pc with the same BOINC Einstein and Rosetta have no issues, so the firewall cannot be te issue.
I did a ping to cher as you suggested and it resulsts in this:
Pinging boinc05.chern.ch [128.142.138.22]

I have another pc (not running at the moment because it is to warm in the room), but that has another version of BOINC as is needed to Albert@home (the latest test version) so I don't know if that will work.
and I don't know how I can give the BOINC files on this pc to that pc.
Perhaps you can explane that in this file, so others can reed it as well, because I don't belief I am the only one with this problem.

I had it earlier this year and this month, I both did a detach and re-atach as was suggested. That worked the first time but not last week. It is only LHC causing this pain...

Message 24011 - Posted: 29 Jun 2012, 9:09:57 UTC - in response to Message 24009.

Ok, here it goes with the "Boinc Transfer HOWTO":

This applies if you have one machine without proper internet (it could be a powerful machine behind a tight firewall or simply without enough bandwith).

PC#1 is the one without internet
PC#2 is the one with internet connection.

Assuming that both have more or less the same BOINC version and both run windows.
Also assuming that PC#2 also does BOINC. If it doesn't, skip the backup and restore parts.

First step: Locate all BOINC Files on your PC#2. Stop BOINC (check taskmanager) and rename the two primary folders:
C:\Program Files\BOINC and
C:\ProgramData\BOINC and rename the folder to: BOINC_backup

Second step: Make sure BOINC is not running while you do this! Then create ZIP Files of those files on PC#1 (I call them: Program_Files_BOINC.zip and ProgramData_BOINC.zip) put them on a USB stick and get them transferred to PC#2.
Put them into the right destination (Program_Files_BOINC.zip goes to: c:\Program Files\ and you should figure where the other file goes to...
UNZIP both files.

Third step: Start BOINC Manager. Now you should see all workunits that have been processed on your PC#1 and just in case you don't have "networking disabled", it should automatically upload.
You might want to use this point to grab some new work if any is available....
Then make sure the results are submitted and a manual refresh on the project makes sure they dissapear from your "Tasks" tab.
After that is done, end BOINC Manager.

Fourth step: Zip the folders like you did on PC#1 (or step #2) and move them back to your PC#1 so you can run BOINC there again.
Delete the BOINC folders on the PC#2 (ONLY BOINC NOT BOINC_BACKUP!!!!!)
Rename the folders again and your PC#2 should be able to continue work.

Fifth step: Just to make sure, rename BOINC to BOINC_OLD and unzip the files you just brought back to your internet-less PC. Just to assure you don't run into issues with overwriting files....

Restart BOINC.

This Howto is much easier if you use Linux. Where the BOINC Files are all in the same directory (wherever you had the boinc installer extract it to). In my case, this is: /home/sysfried/Downloads/BOINC

Now you wonder why this works? Well, the BOINC installer will create a unique ID in one of the XML files (don't ask me which one) to identify the host.
Resetting the Project will also create a new UIN.
CPU ID changes or maybe even the platform (Intel vs. AMD), will not affect the unique ID of the BOINC host.

This is only a workaround for your problem TJ, but I hope it helps you submit your WUs.

If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.

Hello Sysfried,

Thanks for the workaround. It seems quite a job.
But the BOINC versions a very different. Bandwith is not a problem, fiber obtics 50MB up and down. I even disabled my firewall completely for some time, but still no upload, while Einstein is uploading and downloading the whole morning on the same pc with or without firewall.

Three more questions.
1. when I ping 128.142.128.22 I get a Request timed out, 4 packets lost (100% loss) so that is a Cern thing?

2. can I not only get the ready WU's from LHC and copy them to the BOINC data on the other pc? And if yes where are they?
BOINC data shows:
w29feb_niebb1__38__s__64.28_59.31__14_16__6__31 and
w29feb_niebb1__38__s__64.28_59.31__14_16__6__31.5_1_sixvf_boinc13296 (a zipped one)
That are the one I would guess?

3. Can I use another server at Cern to reach and where is the list of servers, I tried already boinc01.cern.ch to boinc07.. but not working.

Hi TJ.

If both BOINC versions use "ProgramDATA and Program Files" it could still work (it's the registry keys that point to it). I think I remember that it was introduced in BOINC 6.x

If the PING fails, you could try a tracert to that IP and if it fails at the first node, you have a local problem, because I can ping it all the way.

There is no easier way to get the workunits transferred. The WUs are mentioned in several XML files and it's more work to find out where each WU is mentioned and modify that rather than copying the whole BOINC folder.

If you have a PRE-BOINC 6.x version, try downloading a current version Setup file, it should be able to transition the workunits to the new version.

Cheers,

Sysfried

Hello Sysfried,

Thanks for all your help, I needed to boot my pc as windows was making a mess of it again...That didn't help. A tracert was succesful but Geneve was a delay.
So upload remains to 36-37%, os partly it did something.
However I have to go to work in a few minutes, so I can't try your BOINC move.
When I come back the return deadline is over, unfortunately.

But thanks again much appreciated.

Hi Sysfried,

I did everything you described with the BOINC transfer, but I got the same HTTP error. So with almost an hour work no joy.
I have detached from LHC and will not re-atach (at least this summer).
I run 5 projects and only LHC is giving this trouble, so it must be something on their site, and the HTTP error was there earlier a few times.

However thank you for your kind assistance, the admins can take an example to you.

I was that stupid to re-atach to LHC@home again, but when wu's run for more than 8 hours, they won't upload again.
I am very impatient with this project so I have detached this particular pc again and will not atach again.

Servers are up again, and after reseeting the project, booting the pc and several detach and re-atachs, wu's won't upload.
This is defenately not my project.
I will wait for the deadline, if they upload eventually. If not that I will detach for the last time.
