Hi all, are their any tasks coming up in the next few weeks? I'm eager to start earning some more credits. :-)
Thanks.

You might take a look at Test4Theory@home http://lhcathome2.cern.ch/test4theory/.
This Project is also based at CERN but uses the Oracle Virtual Machine approach which crunches CERN Work Units (WU) running as a BOINC Task. It is doing different work but is also proving the approach of using a virtual machine so that projects don't have to be converted to run under BOINC.

This project is still in the "testing" stage as the organizers are working out things like credits, how it can play well with other BOINC tasks, etc.

I have been getting blocks of tasks on a couple of my hosts the last 2 days.

It looks like some of the other members here are too.

Thanks

Jep, I got 66 workunits over the last 2 days on my two laptops.

Just wish they would put an update on the frontpage everytime there was work. Then we could go into fast chrunching mode faster, as I pause all other work until the LHC is done, so it can be delivered fast back, since it's so rare we get work :)

edit: just got 15 new tasks.

One of the problems is that the new BOINC (7.0.25) doesn't play uniformly when you have Projects that have a lot of Tasks mixed with Projects that get Tasks only occasionally. The Projects that can pulp the queue in BOINC full do it and then BOINC doesn't look for work across all Projects until the low trigger point is reached.

I haven't figured out how to tweak the various settings to "fix" this bug.

A bunch of tasks have been pushed into the pipeline. In order to get some I had to suspend all other projects and then Update LHC@Home. I could get only 1 task for each time I updated (maximum of 4).

I am getting about a dozen tasks on each of my 7 hosts right now and did suspend my Einsteins just to get some of these running while we have them here.

The server status says over 21,000 tasks ready to go which is about the most I remember seeing since 2004

Yes indeed. I hope we shall have lots more work now.
(We should also have a MAC executable! so more competition
for it though..........). Eric.

Just wondering if all the tasks listed as being available are for Linux and Mac only as I can't persuade either of my windows machines to pick up any of them. Tried resetting and detach/attach a couple of times each, to no avail. Cleared the decks to allow this rare work in so puzzled as to why I'm not getting any. Message shows no tasks sent rather than no tasks available so I'm guessing I've got the wrong OS.

I don't think it is your OS that is the problem Ray,

I have a couple XP Pro's that have been here since 2004 and right now they are getting tasks with no problems (3-cores getting about a dozen each time)

I see you got one that said it was complete and "invalid".....that is a bit strange.

I don't have a Vista but I imagine they work here too and I also have 4 Win7 hosts running here with no problems.

Maybe it is if you have T4T running at the same time on your 2-core that is causing your problem getting any tasks here.

(I justs checked the server status and it looks like it ran out of tasks for right now)

Thanks Magic,
Only got LHC on this lappy as I've borrowed it from my sister as my own one (with T4T on it and 2 timed out LHC WUs) has a duff battery (new one winging its way from Hong Kong) so it's currently not able to do any useful work. I left this one banging on the door all day and a couple of WUs sneaked in overnight and today. I'm now getting the expected no tasks available message so whatever the problem was has resolved itself.

Tasks are now showing up in the pipeline. I guess the move to the new server was successful.
