Message 52027 - Posted: 16 Jul 2025, 16:53:45 UTC

I tried to create a new topic (for VirtualBox 7.1.12 ).

Preview showed the title and text without problems. I clicked OK.
This time the title came out fine. The text part was completely missing.
Occasionally in the past I have encountered a title coming out broken even though it has shown to be okay in the preview. Then I've just edited the title until it has worked.

New with this attempt to create a post today was an anomaly that after clicking OK and missing the text part completely... there wasn't then a possibility to edit the post at all. A link or button to edit was missing.

Then I tried adding just the missing text part by posting a second message into the topic. Preview was OK again. I clicked "Post reply".
I got an error saying : "Can't create post. Failed to add post to DB."

So... just kindly bringing this observation into attention. Maybe some small hickups somewhere deep in the data sentinel.

"Can't create post. Failed to add post to DB."
can be caused by invalid characters in the body. An emoticon in a quote is one example. In this case it seems to be a problem with the github tags. By leaving out the tags I was able to post to the thread most of what I believe you were trying to post. I couldn't get it to take with the tags.

Okay, good to see the reason. Thanks for investigating and filling in the body text !

Next under my account / community preferences.

Changing the avatar, goes to blank page at http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/edit_forum_preferences_action.php, and does not change it.

Other choices can all be modified ok as long as you don't try upload avatar.

===

Same thing happens for profile photo. blank page at http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/create_profile.php. no photo change.

Text can be changed ok as long as you don't try to upload profile photo.

Funny.
The above posting is from 2011 and the issue with uploading an avatar still persists.
This is the error message coming up when trying to upload an avatar (which, by the way, worked well using the LHC-dev sister BOINC project website):

Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function gd_info() in /boincdata/boinc/project/lhcathome/html/inc/image.inc:23 Stack trace: #0 /boincdata/boinc/project/lhcathome/html/user/edit_forum_preferences_action.php(99): intelligently_scale_image() #1 {main} thrown in /boincdata/boinc/project/lhcathome/html/inc/image.inc on line 23

Accessing the various LHC@home websites has become quite troublesome lately. Many times, trying to open a certain webpage ends up with a timeout (obviously after exactly 1 minute).
This has been going on for several months - no idea why's it can't be fixed.

P.S. I have tried to open the Server Status Page for more than 1 hour now - without success. Is anyone else able to open it?

Nope, no success for us all

At the moment there are several Projects that require babysitting or micromanagment of all the clients :/

There is a hardware problem with the storage cluster that our servers rely on, hence the server_status page and other pages timeout. Hopefully fixed soon.
