LCH@home was moved from QMC in th UK back to CERN in Geneva. This was done so that there would again be admin support and other technical reasons.

There were glitches when moving data base between machines. There is a change in OS, environment, BOINC version. Then the Server was then changed again to another physical server.

Some problems have developed but they are being fixed.

If you get any of the following errors in your client log

  • LHC@home 1.0 | Temporarily failed download of sixtrack_530.8_windows_intelx86.exe: HTTP error
  • Message from server: Error in request message: no start tag
  • Message from server: Error in request message: fgets() failed

The best thing to do is detach and reattach.

Be sure you use the correct URL
http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/
The url to attach to usually can always be found on the front page of any project. Please use only the url they show.

Other things to check in your account
Check your list of computers under your account, if you have any duplicates merge them. Boinc server sometimes creates new host id when reattaching.

Check your team affiliation. This should have been corrected, but be sure you are still on the correct team, if not, quit that team and rejoin your correct team.

Some acoounts lost profile photos and avatars, check under your account and re-upload again if necessary.

Work may be restricted, if you only get 1 or 3 tasks at a time, pleaes be patient while the admins work out problems. Work is restricted usually to reduce load on the server while testing goes on.

Friends, we are back in a working condition. Thank you for your patience.

If you still experience problems getting work/sending results, please
re-attach to http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack

As we have been restoring operations, we have cleaned the data base.
In particular we have touched the teams table to eliminate old errors.
Please, report to us any inconsistencies that you see.

Our priorities for the coming days/weeks is to run LHC science with your help!
The results we have from the run last week are very interesting. In addition,
we have found some differences between Intel and AMD processing.
We will report back to you when we finish the analysis.

From admin, we will focus on updating the project web pages. I expect some initial instabilities, however should not affect the work distribution and results.

Thank you.

What is SIXTRACK and LHC@home 1.0 ?

See the front page links:

SIXTRACK is based at CERN

SixTrack was the first application of LHC@home.
Now LHC@home also spans other projects. Please refer to the LHC@home project pages for more information.

Additional information on the How the LHC works

---

LHC@home 2.0 or Test4Theory is a separate project of LHC@home, any questions or problems about that project or the virtual machine should be reported in their forum.

BIGMAC here; we seem to be back in business and how.
I shall be rerunning some WUs several times as I am
still worried about results inconsistencies since
we switched to the ifort compiler.

Igor and coleagues at CERN are working hard to get
the WEb pages sorted out and also the Message Boards.

Thanks for your patience and continued support. More news
as soon as I can find time.

Overclockers,

Please check your results. This project requires very acurate results and overclocking has been known to pruduce results not as acurate as a stock speed cpu, these get marked invalid.

If you overclock and see errors in your results you have two chocies

detach
downclock until you get valid results.
