You should always use the one listed on the front page of the project, this or any other project. This is the one the the project will support. Other urls may forward, but at some time they will dissapear. yes you should detach from the old url, that server is turned off and replaced by different server at new location with the new url. staying attached to a defunct url jsut wastes your computers time trying to connect and get a response that will never come. |

And the URL in my address bare is this one: http://boinc01.cern.ch/sixtrack/index.php So is that the correct one? Dublin, California Team: SETI.USA ![]() |

Other urls may forward, but at some time they will dissapear. I see the same thing under both urls, same pages of text look down under Join SIXTRACK .. .. .. •When prompted, enter http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/ Every boinc project using unmodified pages lists the url in this spot. It is a in the default boinc code to do so. It is evne in bold type |

Which is the correct URL for this project? I have bookmarks for both of these somehow, and both work. Both of those URLs take you to a page that has the address of the scheduler embedded in the HTML. Check the page source code (HTML) and you'll see <!-- <scheduler>http://boinc01.cern.ch/sixtrack_cgi/cgi</scheduler> --> on both pages. You can therefore use either of those URLs for attaching to this project or you can use the URL given on the home page which leads to the same address for the same scheduler. Once BOINC client has that address it keeps it in a file in your BOINC directory so even if those URLs become inactive some day your client will still have the correct address fore the scheduler. So that answers the question "which is the correct URL to use for attaching to the project?" Which URL is the correct URL to get to the forums, stats pages, your account, etc.? The URL given on the front page is probably never going to disappear but you have to append index.php to it else it takes you somewhere else. I think with all the URLs it's needlessly confusing so it would be good if the project admins could whittle it down to just 1 URL like other projects. |

In this case that is true that both urls point to the same scheduler. But that is not the rule, the embedded scheduler url in the front page does not have to be on the same server or url, that is why it is imbedded and hidden from view. A lot of projects do not use the exact same url prefix for the cgi scheduler, and if you just drop the cgi part, you get a blank page or error, if you shorten the url, same thnig. Also the project can move the scheduler, and does not need to tell everyone to detact and reattach, they just change that hidden url and the boinc client will find it and use it next time it fetches a master. This is why you should use the url shown in bold text, as that is the page your boinc client will read when it does a fetch master, it reads the hidden url to then contact the scheduler. If you use the hidden one as your url to attach to and the project changes the scheduler location, then there is a good chance there will be no master page at that url anymmore and your boinc client will not get work or be able to return work it has because it won't be able to locate the new scheduler location. |

the correct URL for LHC@HOME 1.0 aka CLASSIC is http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack If you see boinc01 in the URL path, it is the machine name and we have a plan to move to a different machine next week or so. The intention is to keep the URL stated above and physical location of the server will move. More over, the plan is to make some "load balancing" between different machines, such that machines may change on a frequent basis, once we have this machinery setup. Of course, the project URL should be stable. skype id: igor-zacharov |

http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/ Wow. I must be blind. Or maybe I have looked at this format for so many years, I just don't see it any more. In either case, thanks. I have my answer now. Thanks. Dublin, California Team: SETI.USA ![]() |

Igor, The old LHC@home URLs still show at http://boinc.berkeley.edu/projects.php and http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Project_list and in the all_projects_list.xml which BOINC client downloads to the host and which BOINC manager uses to populate the list in the Attach to Project Wizard. Maybe you should ask Dave A. to change those to the correct address which would help avoid confusion. |
