Recently my PC counted several WU (with typical remaining time), but the validator did something like this:

    21336 2953 4 Sep 2011 14:10:19 UTC 4 Sep 2011 14:26:11 UTC Completed and validated 4.42 3.38 0.02 0.01 SixTrack v530.03

    22153 3327 5 Sep 2011 4:02:49 UTC 5 Sep 2011 5:27:25 UTC Completed and validated 4.39 3.25 0.02 0.02 SixTrack v530.03

Is there any explanation or is it just an accident?

If still valid, the explanation goes as follows: We simulate the particle trajectories around the LHC ring. If the WU finishes early, this just means that the particle "hit the wall" -- this is obviously not desired. (Probably the initial conditions were wrong.)

Nethertheless this info is important, so you get credit. But it obviously does not make sense to continue the WU.

Hope that helps (and is somewhat correct and understandable)

Michael
