Message 22917 - Posted: 6 Sep 2011, 19:27:45 UTC - in response to Message 22909.

you are right, of course - we could be much more open about our actions.

However, for us, this move was a risky undertaking and we did not know ourselves exactly what it will take to move the service to CERN. Specifically for the URL:
the story is not over, there might be another change to be able to facilitate a reliable multi-machine operation.

However, this time, as we have the communication with the community going -
we will give all info ahead of time and invite comments.

By this opportunity - there will be a change in sixtrack executable version tonight. Hopefully, it will be transparent to all of you, as the system will "discover" the new version and will distribute it together with the new work.

We expect from the new version (Windows and Linux) a better numerical stability.
We have tuned it in the last few days with your formidable help.

It would be helpful if the Server Status could be linked to the Project page. I know you guys are probably up to your ears but, while I have gotten one WU, I'm "Suspended" right now so my system doesn't keep trying to get something to do. I'm running T4T and am trying to make sure that BOINC isn't doing a lot of hammering to no good end.

Could be nice to write on LHC homepage, that users have to detach/reattach with new URL to continue to crunche for LHC@home - It seems a basic guideline, don't you think ?

That was a problem with the BoincStats database, several months ago. Users IDs got re-issued - you'll need to go there and find what your new ID number is, then change it in your signature here.

And the server status page is restricted to admins, not for all to see, so we don't even know what's down:

I don't want to perform admin functions, I only want to see the server page ;)

It took some debugging time, but now the validation should work much better.
I have increased the number of results/day, so it should send some work now.

This is good news.

Will watch for more work and keep an eye on results.

Dear project team!
It is very useful for us to see Server status page, but it is hidden now. Why?

Agreed - it' a standard BOINC requirement as far as I know.

Another change - we should move machines for lhcathomeclassic on wednesday or thursday and also fix some small data base inconsistencies.

Please be patient.

I'm sure after the project gets moved to the new machine, there will have to be a check for bugs and everything will get sorted out.

This already has been reported.

Any particular reason that existing Six Track crunchers were not offered first shot at the new LHC V2.0 rather than opening it up to the general public on first-come/first-serve basis?

Sixtrack crunchers were offered first shot. There were references to a new LHC related project in these forums over a year ago and Ben Segal gave the email address to submit a request for an invitation code long ago. It was there for all to see, no secrets. Sorry you missed it but that's life.

They did not want to allow all Sixtrack crunchers into the new project because they wanted just a handful for alpha test and later just a few more for beta test.

I should comment on the Server Status Page issue.

There is no secret in this and there was no attempt to restrict it.
It is just some kind of permission problem which I was not able to
find so far. It should work and will be on top of the list to fix
after the move to the new machine tomorrow.

I see that the spammers are en-masse taking over the profiles around here (e.g. see here). Perhaps it's time you enabled the reCaptcha security and did some pruning of the crap? :-)

Yes, they need to be cleaned up, and measures put into place but the ones I looked at were from join dates of 2009. A problem that should have been dealt with back then.

Friends, we are back in a working condition. Thank you for your patience.

If you still experience problems getting work/sending results, please
re-attach to http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack

As we have been restoring operations, we have cleaned the data base.
In particular we have touched the teams table to eliminate old errors.
Please, report to us any inconsistencies that you see.

Our priorities for the coming days/weeks is to run LHC science with your help!
The results we have from the run last week are very interesting. In addition,
we have found some differences between Intel and AMD processing.
We will report back to you when we finish the analysis.

From admin, we will focus on updating the project web pages. I expect some initial instabilities, however should not affect the work distribution and results.

Thank you.
