With today\'s announcement, will LHC@home project disappear? And if so, when? This looks like the beginning of the end. |

If you go to the Test4Theory home page you\'ll find it is called LHC@home 2.0. So LHC@home will survive with a slighty different name. Tullio |

With today\\\'s announcement, will LHC@home project disappear? And if so, when? This looks like the beginning of the end. This LHC@home project (running the original application \"Sixtrack\") will not disappear, but it is not part of LHC@home 2.0 as it does not need Virtual Machine technology. |

That is good to know. I have been thinking about joining LHC@home 2.0 but am not sure. I have read the message board about other people\'s installation experiences with Virtual Box but they are having problems with it. |

That is good to know. I have been thinking about joining LHC@home 2.0 but am not sure. I have read the message board about other people\\\'s installation experiences with Virtual Box but they are having problems with it. Over 1000 new volunteers have joined Test4Theory since they opened the doors to the general public. Most of them are NOT having problems. On Windows and Linux, Virtual Box installs like any other app. Mac users must download and run an additional script after they install Virtual Box. Many of the problems being reported are from people who did not install Virtual Box before attaching to the project and Mac users who did not run the script. If you follow the instructions it will probably work just fine for you as it does for most volunteers. If it doesn\'t you can uninstall Virtual Box, detach from the project and walk away from it. It\'s not rocket science :-) |

If LHC@home and LHC@Home 2.0 are up and running, Can I use both? LHC@home 1.0 is not dismissed right? |

If LHC@home and LHC@Home 2.0 are up and running, Can I use both? LHC@home 1.0 is not dismissed right? LHC@home 1 and LHC@home 2 are two separate projects. You can run both. LHC@home 1 will not be dismissed. The only problem is LHC@home 2 is not accepting new members at this time. If you don\'t already have an account there you will have to wait. Watch the News on their home page or scroll to the bottom of the home page and subscribe to the News via RSS feed. They will make a News announcement when they accept new members. LHC@home 2 is called Test4Theory for now. |

LHC@home (classic) will live on as far as we can see but will be hosted at CERN. LHC@Home 2.0 is a new project also at CERN. SO this is a good thing... a new project and further developments of the original project. Alex |

Dear Friends, the LHC@HOME project has been split in 2 tracks that present themselves as different projects in BOINC: LHC@HOME 1.0 is the classic SixTrack application which is used to study the Beam dynamics at the CERN Collider. We continue with the study and improve the program, which is now available in Linux and Windows. We appreciate VERY MUCH your dedication to this project and count on your support in the future. It is planned that this program is used for serious work leading to the CERN Collider improvements and will ramp up the wu this month. Per decision of CERN Management, we have moved the Boinc Server to CERN site and hopefully have preserved your credits to carry forward with LHC@HOME 1.0. At this time the project's URL is http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack . LHC@HOME 2.0 is a novel approach where the program is encapsulated in Vitrual Machine. Theoretical Physics calculation is prepared in the project called Test4Theory. You are wellcome to join that project when it is open for subscription. Separate web pages will be available for that with the URL: http://lhcathomevm/ I believe, we expect still some changes wrt the URLs and will be evolving the web pages to make them more informative. Thank you very much for your support and patience. Igor Zacharov (LHC@HOME 1.0 Transition team). skype id: igor-zacharov |

Days have gone by and yet no wu received. Each click of Update gets a Update requested by user And a Fetching schedular list... then Communication deferred for 24 hours message.... What am I doing wrong? Yikes I am NOT Federico... the stats below are not mine. |

Thanks for the update! There has been much confusion regarding what the two projects do. I recently reattached to LHC 1.0 and am looking forward to new work after long droughts of no work. |

Apparently you are still attached to the 'old' LHC@home project. You need to detatch and re-attach using the URL http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/ Your credits should be shown properly (at least mine were) and you should get WUs as they become available. My new credits are not yet showing up in BOINCstats -- but hopefully they will eventually. |

Hmmmm Found one of your old post at Seti with the same signature. I did read on one of the forums that some of the signatures at Boinc Stats got messed up a while back. You may want to go there and get your new URL. Questions? Answers are in the BOINC Wiki. Boinc V6.10.56 Recommended WinXP C2D 2.1G 3GB |

I had the same problem, and this fixed it. I had assumed that there was no work available. I looked in the forum because of the move. It would have been helpful if the LHC team had sent out an email to members to let them know about the URL change. |

you are right, of course - we could be much more open about our actions. However, for us, this move was a risky undertaking and we did not know ourselves exactly what it will take to move the service to CERN. Specifically for the URL: the story is not over, there might be another change to be able to facilitate a reliable multi-machine operation. However, this time, as we have the communication with the community going - we will give all info ahead of time and invite comments. By this opportunity - there will be a change in sixtrack executable version tonight. Hopefully, it will be transparent to all of you, as the system will "discover" the new version and will distribute it together with the new work. We expect from the new version (Windows and Linux) a better numerical stability. We have tuned it in the last few days with your formidable help. skype id: igor-zacharov |

The new URL seemed pretty clear to me when looking at the Project page. Yeah, maybe there could have been a bit more information about how to switch from the old URL to the new one. It took me a couple of "pokes" to get it right. |
