So, apparently they succeeded to create a miniature \"big bang\" inside the LHC. They collided 2 ions of lead, and the result was a gianormous collision with temperatures up to 10 billion (!!!) degrees. The universe hasn\'t known temperatures like that since 13.7 billion years ago, at the Big Bang.

The next test is said to be planned in 4 weeks. Meanwhile, they will analyse the data.

Does anyone know if this will mean that there will be work for us?

Grtz from Belgium,
Towelie!

And I\'m talking about CERN in Geneva, Switzerland.

They already have lots of data but we shall not crunch it, at least for now. The future is not foreseeable.

This project has very little work. I run SETI (25%)and Einstein (25%) along with LHC (50%). The trick is to set project priorities so if work is available from LHC you get a taste and with a higher priority doing work so you might be able to get a 2nd taste but in the meanwhile you do most of your crunching on other projects.

SETI is down until the new servers Oscar and Carolyn, bought from HP with money offered by the volunteers, are put on line. I am crunching Einstein, which is getting data from the Australian Parkes radiotelescope for its search of pulsars, QMC@home and AQUA@home, multithreading.

Thanks for the info. How to change the default resource allocation between projects? I couldn't find such an option in BOINC.

You set it in the preferences of the individual project, e.g.: Your Account - LHC@Home Preferences

I have suspended my LHC from running. Thought it would be a good idea to get involved but there is little or no work goping on.

cheers

Go to Number Crunching and look in LHC+@home. You might find something to do.

Please note and keep in mind that that so-called \"Big Bang Theory\" is just a... theory coined by limited human\'s perception, and until now only Allakh knows whether it is true or just a fake. So as all kinds of \"dark\" substances...

\"Big Bang\" is not a theory. It was a joking term created by Fred Hoyle who believed in the \"steady state\" theory and wanted to discredit any creation \"ex nihilo\". But the term survived and, after the discovery of the cosmic microwave background, was widely accepted.

Wow 919k WUs available!!! :D, I've never seen so many!

Anyone know or can say what we're crunching now?

I wonder if these are new WUs or if they are "recycled" to validate a change to sixtrack. They seem to have a much longer running time (~6 hours) than what is typical. All that I have processed have completed without error.

I've got a massive variation in WU times from 200-28,000s!!
So I can't help you on WU times I'm afraid.

Went upto ~1.25 million tasks! Dropping now
