This forum is not for the project. However, as the site has been down (temporarily or permanently), did anyone around know whether the project had been abandoned (and why so quickly) or is there plan to resurrect it? Anywhere on the Internet could we get more information?

LHC+@Home has become LHC++@Home and has a new test site
http://boinc01.cern.ch/test4theory/

Only a handful of testers for alpha testing and currently not accepting new users. Anyway, the new site has its own forum.

Interesting and that would certainly explain why there is no work.

So I guess we have to wait until it\'s been tested.

Well got an invitation and duly joined. Download Oracle's Virtual Box software and then polled for WU's all as per the online instructions.

That VB is a nightmare causing stuck command prompt windows, the LAN to lose connectivity because VB insists on its own network, then the WU failed - computation error so to heck with all of that, I've uninstalled it.

Posted a hello/goodbye message on their forums for good measure.

Why they can't make LHC++ work entirely through BOINC will remain a mystery I guess.

So, unless regular LHC is likely to get more work eventually, I guess it's a case of "goodbye LHC, I hardly knew you!"

I have trained myself downloading VirtualBox and using Open Solaris as a guest OS. I downloaded a BOINC client 6.2.19 by a developer called Dotsch and a SETI@home 6.03 app also by Dotsch. SETI@home was the only BOINC client and app I could find running on Solaris Espress (SunOS 5.11). So I made some practice on VirtualBox, sometimes upgrading it and going back to an earlier version when the newer would not work. But it is a good software and has also message boards where you can post and receive suggestions, Solaris comes from Berkeley UNIX, which I have used in my career. But it used to cost money, contrarily to Linux. Now it is free.

With all my other volunteer work I have to do this sounds too much like hard work to me.

I think I'll look for another project to replace LHC.

Thanks for the suggestions though.

So how does one go about getting an invite to join LHC++@Home (aka Test4Theory@Home)? I joined LHC+@Home just before it went off the air, and although I never got VirtualBox to work properly on my computer (a Dell laptop running 32-bit Vista), I\'d still like to try to get it running and help the cause if I can.

Hi Tony (and other interested people),

For an invite, send email to me (b.segal@cern.ch) or to Daniel (teleyinex@gmail.com) and we\'ll give you the invitation code.
We are increasing the number of testers slowly so as to be able to help new people and spot problems as soon as possible.

Ben

Just my luck I have 2 WUs at 99% and all of a sudden the T4T website goes down.

Cant connect to any link on the site.

I had just made a post there and BAM.....server is down.

Do not worry - this was just when we switched our network interface to a faster configuration. You should not have lost any data.

Ben

Yeah it was no problem Ben,

I was posting that here just for luck!

Many times over the years this has happened with the projects and it is funny how just as I hit the \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"post\\\" tab after typing something out a server will go down

But after I stopped by here after a couple tries T4T came back up and just then I sent in one Unit and seconds later the second one.

But they are still \"Completed, waiting for validation\"

Good to see you stop by here too Ben

(as usual it is not easy to edit a post as you can tell)
