As the forum over there is not working yet, I\'ve decided to post here with any questions and problems.

First, of course: Please activate the forum over there, or put the link to this forum over here on that site.

Second: It seems that you need to have at least the newest version of VirtualBox, and as not all machines have that, a lot of WUs crash. You should tell so clearer on the homepage.

Third: It was possible to pause the project and task and start it again afterwards, but it didn\'t survive a restart of the computer, although I saved the VM manually.

Forth: It seems not to care about the resource share set in BOINC, once it starts it runs without stopping. Only manual intervention gives the other projects it\'s share.

What is LHC+@home? Is it the CERN-VM Ben Segal presented in London? Anyway VirtualBox 3.2.8 is broken on my SuSE Linux 11.1 pae.VBox 3.2.6 used to work with OpenSolaris as a guest.

Yes, it is ;)
I didn\'t want to spread the URL too much, so I left it for guessing, as the admins will shurely know whast I\'m talking about (and the ATAs as well;)

VB3.2.8 works fine on my ubuntu64 10.04, and I\'ve got a fresh WU yesterday in that project.

All i get is an \"Undefined symbol in VBoxDD.so\" error and the guest won\'t start. I\'ve posted it twice in the Community Forum but nobody seems to take notice. Also users of 64-bit SuSE 11.3 are complaining of VirtualBox 3.2.8.

Google helps to find the url ;)

Very nice to see, that it´s going on with the project.

Hi guys, please note that LHC+@home is not open for official testing yet, not even for alpha tests, so please wait. We will announce when we\'re ready, and then the performance will be more predictable.

Thanks, Ben.

Should we stop those already running or is it OK to crunch them further?

A new LHC project? WHY (to hell)? This means - current LHC@home will die? It is no fun at all - to collect Retired projects!
IMHO. For every new research to start a new BOINC project - this is a wrong way! We have a lot of projects, which are doing different researches (parallel or sequential, no matter). BOINC father (or mother, if You want) SETI@home has Multi-Beam and AstroPulse (and plans to start 3rd research), a veteran project Einstein@home has main Gravitational Wave search and additional Arecibo binary pulsar search... Finally, the best example of multi-research project may be World Community Grid.
I am discouraged...

Cool down, easy man!
It was a test project, obviously never meant to be public.
Some of the best known projects have such side projects for testing: Seti, Rosetta and CPDN, and LHC had another one before, so WTF?

The LHC+ test project is preparing applications which will run on the same LHC@home platform, side by side with the older Sixtrack application, so do not worry.

I am not an insider, but I think it is caused by two facts.
Firstly: This project has work seldomly. Therefore boinc acumulate priority and when you got a task, it calculate it with highest priority thanks to huge amount of acumulated priority.

And secondly: WU on this projects has very short deadline, therefore is boinc manager pressed to prioritize LHC.

I just comment that when more WU will be available you should probably enlarge time for computing. Someone for example isn\'t at home for weekend or starts PC only at evening, so he would lost his WU.

This thread is not about the project here, but a test project, that has to be treated by BOINC as a new entity, and thus has not huge long term dept surplus (or however it's called).

The test page is gone now (or just temporarily shut down, I don't know), and it was probably a bit futile for us ATAs to join in, but it's always fun to caper new and expectant projects :D

I have downloaded the BOINC Workshop slides by dr.Segal and I am trying to understand them. Just to ask a question: do I need to have the VirtualBox installed on my Linux box (I have it but 3.2.8 is not working, with an \"undefined symbol in VBoxDD.so\" error, while 3.2.6 worked fine) or might I use the Xen hypervisor which is included in my SuSE Linux 11.1 distro?

In my team this lead to computing errors, while a setup with 3.2.8 worked.
As the feedback is rather scarce I can\'t really say what\'s the problem.

Just to be sure, I downloaded again the 3.2.8 version from SuSE.I have posted about this error in the VirtualBox Community Forum but nobody seems to care.I used to run OpenSolaris as a guest and a SETI@home app by Dotsch, the only BOINC app I could find to run on a X86 Solaris, But it was really slow compared to the Linux app and I only wanted to do some practice on a virtual machine waiting for CERN-VM, since LHC is not giving me any Linux work.

I have posted in the VirtualBox Community forum and they advised me to do /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup but this did not help. I have VBox 3.2.10 installed.

This forum is not for the project. However, as the site has been down (temporarily or permanently), did anyone around know whether the project had been abandoned (and why so quickly) or is there plan to resurrect it? Anywhere on the Internet could we get more information?

LHC+@Home has become LHC++@Home and has a new test site
http://boinc01.cern.ch/test4theory/

Only a handful of testers for alpha testing and currently not accepting new users. Anyway, the new site has its own forum.
