Today Dr.Segal has spoken at the BOINC workshop in London and tomorrow he should speak again at the Citizen Cyberscience meeting also in London.I am looking forward to these talks, hoping for some good news for us Penguin users.

I do not know why you LINUX people are so anxious for an App -- there will not be (m)any WU for it anyway!

Vista/XP user (and not getting much WUs on them either).

I agree. There is so little LHC work you would have to wonder why anyone would put the effort in to do a Linux app. IN any case, if the amount of work increased there would probably be more bang for the buck by putting together what is needed to allow WU to be run on a GPU.

I must admit it does seem odd to want a Linux app for a project that does not have much work. But now is the best time to put one together and get it working. That way when LHC does have some work to do the Linux crunchers won\'t be left behind. Developing a GPU app would be nice as well but the same problem still exists; does it run on Linux or Windows?

Add me to the list of penguins (gentoo I might add) who awaits a Linux app. We feel abandoned.

This is soul destroying. I see the server is sending out workunits, and yet I am not allowed any because I use Linux. Poor call.

Sometimes LHC send WUs and windows computers seems be the only ones to can catch them (sometimes I have the impression I\'m a hunter. It\'s not me)
Maybe LHC tasks are ET for linux. It\'s a joke...
Maybe LHC doesn\'t need BOINC everytime?
Maybe the earth is round?
Fortunately, there are other BOINC projects for crunchers
Maybe linux more efficient that windows. I think that but no tasks!
I\'m on the linux list and run windows too.

I think the reason that not many people get WUs is that as soon as they are pushed to the server there are all these systems setting around just waiting to be fed and the resulting feeding frenzy is like piranha attacking a cow that was dumb enough to step into the river.

SETI just went through a major shutdown to update their servers and when they came back on line there was a similar feeding frenzy but they have so much work they were able to just keep feeding WU\'s until things quieted down. I am not sure but their servers may also do something to limit the number of WUs that an account may request so the guys with mega-number crunchers do not end up stealing the show.

Well, the Linux people don\'t get any WUs because the project doesn\'t have a Linux app with which to crunch them. Hence the reason for this thread. As for the rest of us, it\'s a matter of hitting the server at the precise moment that work is available. In other words, pure luck of the draw.
