LHC News Aug. 6th 2009 Different values and explanations with different journalists writing about this event: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/08/07/lhc_back_but_redlined_at_50_percent/ It's interesting that it takes journalists to create the articles instead of the scientific staff. Who's paying them to sit on their hands during the repair work? Hopefully everything will go well even at half speed. Possible WU's maybe? |

Thanks for sharing the news article. Here is a clickable link: It is interesting that there is no mention of the magnet problem that was included in the NY Times article. In an e-mail exchange, Lucio Rossi, head of magnets for CERN, said that 49 magnets had lost their training in the sectors tested and that it was impossible to estimate how many in the entire collider had gone bad. He said the magnets in question had all met specifications and that the problem might stem from having sat outside for a year before they could be installed.
