Does any one know why there have been no WU\'s going out? I have been with this project for 2 going on 3 weeks now and as of yet had no work sent my way.
Does any body know why this is ???
I look forward to your answers and thank you for your help.

Unfortunately, your experience is not unusual. This project supplies very little work. And the managers of this project do little to let those who volunteer for them know what is going on with the project. So we are all being kept in the dark. Personally, I have not had any work from LHC in 5 weeks, so I feel your frustration. But as Gas Giant suggests, read through the other forums and you will know as much about what is going on as the rest of us (there is not a whole lot there, so it shouldn’t take you very long). But my best recommendation for now is to crunch for other projects while you keep this one running. And if you happen to get a WU or two from LHC once in a while, treat them like unexpected gifts and feel lucky that you got them. We can only hope that when the collider gets repaired that more work will be generated. But I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Why would one wonder why its not closed? It is pretty obvious from the information provided in these forums and the info. in the news that the collider is down for repairs and isn\'t expected to be up until October. I just posted the latest news article and it suggests that some work will be started within the next few weeks, but it doesn\'t say if it will be for LHC@home or not. For those who don\'t pay attention to other posts, here is the link I refer to.

Whel Coleslaw;)
It\'s obvius that you have not
read carefuly enogh.
The data from the colider will
be handel by the \'Grid\' and not
BOINC so the question is valid.

Isn\'t the LHC@home pretty much doing what the Tier 2 section of the \"Grid\" is for? If not, maybe Tier 1 depending on design. So, why wouldn\'t LCH@home not be considered there? Maybe I don\'t know enough of the details behind LHC@home and the \"Grid\", but it sounds to me like it is just a trickle down effect and once data starts flowing, it would only be a matter of time. Just a thought and a positive spin. I\'m not going to assume its over til the Admins announce it so or the servers are permanently brought down.

"These so-called “Tier-1” centres make the data available to over 120 “Tier-2” centres for specific analysis tasks. Individual scientists can then access the LHC data from their home country, using local computer clusters or even individual PCs."

The admins have previously confirmed that there are no plans to port the Grid systems to run on BOINC, as they require a large amount of hard disc space, need a specific version of Linux, and have no-one available to actually do the porting.

Particle accelerators may work or not, but they are not the only source of high energy particles, of gamma-rays and x-rays, of neutrinos, etc. They are provided by cosmic rays and other high energy sources. So CERN is hedging its bets, so to say, and has created an Astroparticle initiative called Aspera (see www.aspera-eu.org) which will take care of this field of research. One of its subfields is gravitational waves research which currently uses BOINC via Einstein@home. This project processes LIGO data but also Arecibo radio data in the search for binary pulsar systems. See the Einstein@home home page (einstein.phys.uwm.edu) for details. So what went out through the door may come in through the window.

Ok! Guys before you end up the wrong alley?

This project passed through one phase and we crunched and enjoyed that phase but do not lose heart when this silly Large Hadron Collider fires?? The we will get a lot of data to crunch. Until that earth shattering event??? there is nothing maybe for a few magnets that may require alignment. So wait like we all are and crunch some thing else in the meanwhile.
Regards.

Yes, but the BOINC devs are looking (in v.6.10 I think) to add the ability for BOINC to create and use client-side VMs. This would allow projects to distribute complete environments (including specific OSes, such as CERN\'s Scientific Linux) for their apps and WUs.

Of course, just because the capability will be there, doesn\'t mean LHC will use it; but I think some CERN people were involved with getting the BOINC devs to look into VMs in the first place...
