Hello LHC-Team.

In other projects, it is possible to delete old hosts which no longer exists. If the host (e.g. since one month) delivered no WU, there is at the host-page the link --delete this host--.

At LHC, there is no link. There is a link --Merge this computer--, but this do not help me. What must I do to delete old hosts?

Thanks for your help, Grubix.

Yes as you can see that is not possible here but all it does is leave it on your account and after the 30 days it is then moved to the page with any/all of your former workers.

I kind of like it since I can still take a look and see the old machines of the past that I have used over the years.

(I just wish they would update these poor message boards)

This is a persistent problem at LHC@home. As you can tell by scanning the thread list in this forum, you aren\'t the first person to complain about it.

The truth is that you can delete old hosts on LHC@home, but only when the number of tasks shown on the host\'s webpage is zero. At that point, the \"Delete this computer\" link will appear on the host\'s webpage.

All BOINC projects keep track of individual tasks when they are in progress, when credit is pending, and then for a few days after credit has been received. At that point the task stops showing up on the website. LHC@home, however, takes a very long time to remove these tasks from the website, and sometimes never removes them.

I personally have 28 old hosts that I can\'t delete. We\'ve all complained about it, but the only reply I\'ve ever seen from the admins explained how \"fixing this isn\'t worth our time\".

Thanks for the reply and the explanation.

I had already searched the forum but found nothing suitable from a admin or project manager. I'm sorry that I warmed up the old theme.

I hope a admin can solve the problem, because users like me would like to have a clean host list. I donate my computer power and the operators take care of problems. In this way both sides are satisfied.

In addition to the science, BOINC users should also have fun. :-)

I hope my thoughts come across, my english is not so good. :-(

Have a nice day, Grubix

Hello all,

I just checked this already old discussion. I don\'t remember where, but I once read, that the scientist request to not delet the units. Tha\'s why they are still there. Some time last year (or even two years ago) after the update of the server code I did merge old machines. That had been possible only then because the introduced option \'marge by name\'. I received an error. But it was the opposite of the expected. ALL machines merged to the latest one! No idea, if that is still working or if that bug had been fixed.

Kind regards,

Christoph

Hello Christoph, thanks for your reply.

Are there any scientists here in the forum who can confirm this?

What are two years old WUs still interesting? With the calculated data, the listing of the old WUs still have nothing to do. I think so...

Bye, Grubix.

I hope I do not push too much and I am too impatient. But after 200 days without any reaction I would like to ask how the state of things?

Since there was no answer, I am going to assume that none of the scientists is still interested at the WU list.

Will it now be possible to delete old computers from the host list?

I want to tidy up my stats. For every project that is possible, just not at LHC@Home. This casts a bad light on the project.

Bye, Grubix.

You can check in the \"Café\" in the \"whatever happened...\" thread. For now the only feedback from the project is from 1 scientist (bigmac) who explains the problems that LHC@home has.

If LHC starts up again, then maybe they will have time for your request. Maybe in another 200 days. Or 20. Or 2000 days.

Hi,

Forget about everything regarding this project, the only important stuff for the project people is that the users deliver results (but maybe not even this!) as soon as they get WUs and that is it!
Amen and happy crunching!

Thank you very much.

Not all, but most of the old WUs are cleared. Now I can clean up my host list and delete computers that no longer exists.

Thanks, Grubix.
