I just started LHC@Home today, and I\\\'ve been running SETI@home for a couple days.

When I try to update my LHC, it won\\\'t give me any tasks.

When I go to my messages on the BOINC manager, it says:

Sending scheduler request: Requested by user.Requesting 0 seconds of work. Reporting 0 tasks completed.

Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks.

Any know what\\\'s wrong?

Yup, unfortunately we blew up the Cern LHC end of last year and are only getting the occasional work units on here to keep everyone interested. Don\\\'t get disheartened though 2009 is going to be awesome for the LHC.

FYI the only reason we are getting work at all is due to the malfunction of the LHC. LHC@home helps design the collider NOT process the data gathered from the collisions and probably never will. The admins have stated numerous times that the data sets would be to large to distribute over the internet. They have purchased some supercomputers for that.

That is really disappointing.

. . . from everything I have been able to gather about the LHC, it\'s appetite for computer cycles would be almost beyond the capabilities of modern computer science to provide.

. . . that is of course if CERN can keep it running.

I had one task that could not be loaded. Now I have no tasks at all. Tried for the past week, nothing at all.

I would not worry about it too much. This is one of those projects where it is on again, off again with its workunits. At least it has not become as bad as orbit@home... yet. In the meantime, you might want to attach to other projects so that your computer has something to do while it is waiting on lhc@home to hand out more workunits.

They don\'t send tasks often. Right now there are a few tasks left, just over 1000. Be quick or wait until next time. I hope you get some tasty tasks. Umm.

I have the priority of LHC set 10:1 over any other project. It seems to help.

I just got a few tasks for my Mac virtual windows 2K system.

My computer (\"Ath-Hole\") gets work because it\'s made of parts that blew up in other computers (TRUE!) and as such, only cost me around £20 (that\'s around $1 for our American friends (and my Wife too)).
It\'s gives CERN an insight into what they should do in the event of catastrophic failure. I call it \"backwards engineering the afterlife\"
