Fixing the world\'s largest atom smasher will cost at least $21 million and may take until early summer, its operator said Monday. An electrical failure shut down the Large Hadron Collider on Sept. 19, nine days after the $10 billion machine started up with great fanfare. The European Organization for Nuclear Research recently said that the repairs would be completed by May or early June. Spokesman James Gillies said the organization know as CERN is now estimating the restart will be at the end of June or later. The organization has blamed the shutdown on the failure of a single, badly soldered electrical connection. |

According to Symmetry Magazine, and dated 16th Feb. 2009, “LHC repairs almost complete†Engineers at CERN are installing the last component necessary to fix the Large Hadron Collider, LHC production manager Lyn Evans said at the AAAS conference in Chicago. I’ve been wondering if the heat caused by an unexpected collision (of two or more stray protons) could have caused the “meltdown†of the wiring in the magnet :) |

Thanks for posting that information! Its unfortunate thats how we have to get the news these days about the collider. We only crunch the work on our computers,so i guess were not important enough to get any news or information from the team. The last message left on the home page, was over 5 months ago. There has not been much work to crunch lately, but when there is,its processed very quickly! And yes i know everyone is busy, but 10 minutes to post a quick message update would be fracking nice! Thanks again! |

You are right; maybe a look So, you are saying the participants of this project are to stupid to look at other sources? Maybe you have to change your mind! Many people shared there computertime with this project. They computed many things, that would had cost millions of dollars to compute with a \'super-computer\'. I think, that the participants of this project have the right to know whats going on on LHC! As mentioned before there is no news on this page for over 5 month!!! If you don\'t need us anymore, then stop the project LHC@home. But think about what it will cost to do the computing on your own machines. WE SHARE COMPUTER-POWER AND ELECTRIC-POWER FOR YOU FOR NOTHING, MAYBE YOU SHOULD SHARE SOME INFOS ON THE PROJECT SITE. If nothing happens the next month, i will stop sharing my computer-power for this project! You don\'t deserved it anymore. :-( |
