Why is it, when the Server Status says:- --‘Up, 4200 workunits to crunch’ And I hit the ‘Update’ button to get more tasks The message reply says --‘Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks’ This is really irritating Mike |

Read the line above that one. I bet it says something about not requesting work. The update button does not request work it just contacts the server and updates various things. BOINC WIKI BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |

Thanks for your reply The line above says:- Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Requesting 0 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks How do I get it to request some work? Mike |

Well there really are very little workload units available for the LHC project, look at this thread As far as I see things, the LHC project Sixtrack was meant for primarily designing the LHC. So as that\'s done already, one really can't expect any fresh workload units. However Sixtrack is also used for finetuning & tweaking the LHC magnets for example, and since a lot of that will be done in the coming winter - you can expect fresh workload units coming your way. That said, always be ready to go without any work on this project for days 'nd maybe months at a stretch - such is the type of this project cuz all the REAL data that the LHC shall produce (15 petabytes anually) will be crunched by far more mighter machines than your standard home PC. Maybe things might change if the LHC guys decide to port any fresh software to BIONIC - which for example could be used to process data form ATLAS or CMS, possibly using CUDA power of a Gfx card (just an exotic thought). btw, has anyone seen the program Garfield in action ? Still though, if you are hellbent on getting WUs, keep checking this Scarecrow graph to find an approx. timespan everyday when WUs are released. I think they do so inbetween 2:00 - 10:00 UTC everyday. Also keep checking the LHC Server Status - if it says out of work (which it says most of the time) - then you won't get any tasks. Time is God's way of keeping all things from happening at once. - Anonymous Large Hadron Rap LHC Images |

Thanks geo... 1. There is LHC work to do. 2. Your computer is already full with other projects\' work. 3. Your computer thus doesn\'t ask for LHC work. |

Its not true. I got 5 computers with boinc installed (mostly on linux). I manage this with windows boinc system. Today I got only 2 works tasks... rest of computers were on idle. Just checkin others project - einstein - all computers get tasks and computing... lhc is quiet.. nothin to do, without tasks, just idle.. something is wrong I think :o |

not really, as it said on the main page, the work here is not continuous. You may get a task or two every 1-2 weeks. |

Why is it, when the Server Status says:- What\'s really irritating is that some guys don\'p post in the right message board ;) |

11/10/2008 4:22:48 PM|lhcathome|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Requesting 8931 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks I\'m new. All it says is \"communication deferred.\" I\'ve tried all sorts of updates, etc. Einstein and seti work fine. What\'s up? |

11/10/2008 4:22:48 PM|lhcathome|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Requesting 8931 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks The boinc client slows down its requests to the server when there is no work. In the early days of Boinc being used on the Seti@home servers clients that would normally contact the server once every 8 hours for a work unit would suddenly start hammering the Seti server repeately for hours on end which caused the network switches to be overloaded with traffic. Having the \'deferred\' requests avoids hammering the server when there are no work units available. The LHC project has had very few work units for the last few months, mostly because all the magnets are aligned, and their contols are tuned, so there really isn\'t much to simulate these days unless they want to try out a change to the operation of the collider. I'm not the LHC Alex. Just a number cruncher like everyone else here. |
