The Large Hadron Collider is entering the final stages of being lowered to a temperature of 1.9 Kelvin (-271C; -456F) - colder than deep space http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7512586.stm It will then be shut down for the winter, so that the magnets can be "trained" to handle a beam run at seven trillion electron-volts Looks like lots of work coming up for us here then :) Al. |

There are some great pictures from LHC http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2008/08/the_large_hadron_collider.html Linux Users Everywhere @ BOINC [url=http://lhcathome.cern.ch/team_display.php?teamid=717] |

The basic Seti work likewise generates large data file but they have managed to figure out how to "chunk" the data out so us lowly peons not running Crays can participate. This just sounds like an lame excuse. |

Maybe they just don't want rogue states to have access to the data. What are they going to do, build their own black hole and suck the whole world into it? |

Geez, Tom! If *I* knew what they could do with the data then there would be no reason to build a collider and get the data. Huh? Point taken. :) |
