So, Alex's note today about server software would allow one to infer that there is life left in this project. Beyond LHC going on line? I was previously left wit the impression that the data stream produced by the project once LHC was on line would be beyond the beyond for any @home equipment, and that the project would just die. Was that a wrong impression? Please check out my blog http://sciencesprings.wordpress.com http://facebook.com/sciencesprings |

Hopefully it was. I've thought about this too but if the LHC will finally go online then there might be some data that could use "@home equipment"... or not? |

Oh, and I don't think Alex would be upgrading the server software if the project was about to close... |

Indeed. It looks like there may be some hope for this project. Let's see if the Grid system allows for some crunching by us mere mortals. Warped |

Even after LHC beeing operational, they will still need computing power to analyse the results from the collisions, or to tune their machinery for new experiments ... because each answered question leads to more questions and new theories :D MfG, MEX 0xFF |

Even if we get work from LHC, what happens if they find Higgs the Day they start? |

Then they get some champagne and start working on the new particles they've found but never knew existed... and we get more work |

Nice! I'm just glad to finally be able to crunch something for this project! |

Well, if they don't then they have to change their methods and test new possibilities... => we get work |

Whatever particles are released by the amount of energy involved I am sure there will be more questions than answers at this point. As stated in a previous post, even if the Higgs Boson is found, it will lead to more and more discoveries of other particles even more exotic. Whatever the outcome, this will be an amazing device. |

Whatever particles are released by the amount of energy involved I am sure there As far as i know, then projekt should produce data in the amount of PB (PetaBytes). So there should be data enough to us all. Regards Hansen |
