Given: In most interview quotes, words or phrases listed in square brackets are implied in the original interview, but may not have been stated in the original interview quoted.
Example:
Original- 'President Bush won the last election'.
Quote- '[He] won the last election.'

After millenia of religious fighting...
"We found [the] God [particle]!"

In this case I don' think the []'s can be used; well they can't be used without more context.

"After millenia of religious fighting ... we found G-d" is not quite the same as "After millenia of religious fighting we found the G-d particle".

Because the first part is not quoted at all ... it may be assumed that it could be a different person saying that.

There-in lies a danger in using bracketed word and phrases in Media articles regarding quotes in interviews and other cases of 'putting words in (my/your/a person's) mouth'.
