Old pc died on the weekend, so I got a new machine, which runs Vista. Boinc installs and adds a shortcut to the startup menu, which Vista does not approve of every time I start my pc. So.. I removed the shortcut. Every time I try to start Boinc manually, I get a 'user account control' window which does the Cancel or Allow routine yet again. When I try to preview the screensaver from the Appearance and Personalisation control panel, it doesn't display a screensaver, nor does it display any generic boinc screensaver either. Any suggestions on getting past the 'Cancel or Allow' routine, getting the firewall to like Boinc, and getting the screensaver to work as a screensaver rather than just a number cruncher. I'm not the LHC Alex. Just a number cruncher like everyone else here. |

"Before BOINC 6.0 is released, every BOINC feature should be considered broken in Vista until proven otherwise." Particularly the screensaver, it just won't work. BOINC writes its data files to C:\\Program files\\BOINC. Vista doesn't like programs changing stuff in Program files. 6.x will store data files outside the Program files directory. |
