How about reading other threads before posting? It was decreased for a reason. |

I'm with MrWizard! You should increase again the daily quota to 4 or 8 because there are more than 80000 WU's to crunch. I now that there are many users but the faster work is made the faster you can get new work. |

*sigh* Thats the thing on this project though... There isn't always more work to do! They wanted to make sure new users drawn in by this press release have at least SOME work to do so that they don't attach and immediately get an error message. They want the current batch of work units to last well into next week. Granted, 2/day DOES seem awfully low but I'm not going to ding them for being overly cautious. There are other BOINC projects that can keep your computer busy for the rest of the day. - A member of The Knights Who Say NI! My BOINC stats site |

I now that there are many users but the faster work is made the faster you can get new work. Did you read the reason why the quota was decreased? Many new users are expected soon because of some recent "advertising". They better find something to do when they come. If the quota is too large, we'll have the usual problem of some people with hundreds and some people with nothing. New users come, get no work, go away quick. If everybody, including the new users, gets 2 workunits a day, they will stay seeing the project is active. But the batch of work will get done slower. Is it worth it? The admins expect to upgrade the server soon (RIGHT? >.>) and that would let them use actually fair work scheduling. Meanwhile, we're in "show new users we're alive" mode, not in "fair work distribution" mode. |

;) dont worry, let that accelerator start :) per minute of firing we will have so much WU's it will come out of our ears ;) i wonder who had this wicked idea, though :( Alex or Neasan? :) well! more power to them. LoL. Regards Masud. PS. let us have out two at a go at least, instead of making us fish for them all day ;) to old to do that :( |

Funny, if I look at the credits of the guys who wish to increase the daily quota, it looks like they belong to the group that always missed to get some work because others filled there caches before them. LOL I belonged to the very same group and I think that the limitation is a great idea! Finally some LHC work for me also! If they increase the quota again, dont make it more than 5. Just my 2 cents... BOINC Synergy! My NEW BOINC-Site! |

Well... I really hope you meant 5 per hour ... ;) |

I'm happy even with the 2/day we have now. Under the old rules, I'd rarely get any WU's before they were snapped up. And then would read complaints from those that only got 50. Now I have some WU's chugging away for LHC, along with my other projects I'm part of. |

I would be very happy with a 2 pending wu's per core quota. So that when I finish one, I can grab another. Having one backup wu is nice in case there's a network problem or whatever. |

From 2 to 100. As usual a few greedy users want to suck up all the available work. Why dont you just attach to more projects? I run 14* every day on both of my CPUs, always have work and only work for the projects I am interested in helping. * Link: http://www.boincsynergy.com/images/stats/comb-4156.jpg |

10/13/2007 10.29.35|lhcathome|Message from server: No work sent Yes it is. If you look on your computer details it says "Maximum daily WU quota per CPU: 2/day". EDIT: admins, why is bold text also 10% bigger? |

That will be possible after they upgrade the server. Ah excellent. I just read that they could do a more "fair" distribution, but not exactly what "fair" meant :) |

If they increase the quota again, dont make it more than 5. In the post before this one, you mentioned that you have 14 projects attached. I, on the other hand, have only 3 projects attached: LHC, SETI, and Einstein. I'm not really interested in the other projects that are out there... The main problem with all this "fair distribution" talk is that the ONLY reason the topic even needs to be brought up is because the project isn't generating much work. A mere 100,000 results could be processed within a day, at most. My own lowly single-core computer could churn through at least 50/day, if not closer to 100. I would guess that it would take only about 10,000 - 15,000 hosts to chug through 100,000 results/day without this artificial throttle, mainly because the results are very short-running. At any rate, if you look at the other projects I am attached to, here's the lowdown on them: SETI: Seems to have the most problematic server installation. Everything from the upload/download servers to the splitters and scheduler seems to break often enough to necessitate having a backup project. Einstein: S5R2 science application (client) and validation processes (server) were very buggy. This left a lot of users quite unhappy. S5R2 apps got better towards the end of the run, but now they are using some code for searching for gravity waves that has not really been done before, so again, there could be problems with validation and/or crashes of the application like there was with S5R2. All this means that there needs to be yet another backup project... |
