hello, The administration team have decided to give an (x ammount / cpu) basically to spread the love around to all that crunch for this project. Hoping that everyone will have some work for their pc's. And also in a bid to cut down on the complaining that numerous members haven't had a single wu to crunch. Me pesonally if i have ( 1 ) wu or a ( million ) i'm just glad to have taken part ! At a guess it probably depends on the pc/workstation/server being used. Single/dual/quad core etc. |

Message from server: (reached daily quota of 8 results) I normaly finish for 4-5h ( P4 2160 ) and ... wait, wait ... :P If posibile, can you increase 5-6 WU for CPU? Please..... Normally, project has work only for 1-2 days in week ( or month ;-) )? |

Well actually the old PIII 500 quit running a few years ago and so did an AMD 1700 (processor fan quit working when I wasn't home) But I still have them in my pc junk pile along with other peoples old machines (even a PII) The reason I want more wu's is I have been here 24/7 for the last 3 years now. I don't run 24 different projects as you can see so it isn't like they will be on my pc very long either. It takes this dual core P4 3.2 about 45 minutes to do two wu's It is telling me right now that I recieved my daily quota of 8 wu's but actually I have not got anything in the last 24hrs. Not sure where you looked, but of your 3 active computers: one PC has 12 wu's and one PC has 8 wu's. One little PC hasn't contacted LHC since Oct 3rd and ran all the way home without receiving any WU's. You have received work in the last 24 hours. You also have turned in completed work. |

The only reason you see that is because it all happened after I posted that here........not that it is why it happened.......but that is still why I said it That other "little pc" you mention is actually the same dual dual core P4 3.2 as the "other" one listed. Oct 3rd is just the day I switched it to the newer BOINC version. I still have the P4 2.5 running the version before this one. And I have another AMD 3200 just sitting here doing nothing because it refuses to connect the IP I use via satellite (I may either reinstall a fresh XP Pro or see if I can load the HD by using this pc or maybe starting with a test of seeing if it will get online with a dialup just for fun) But the main thing is this one and the other pc both got some work...... Ok.....back to watching the Lakers game............ Volunteer Mad Scientist For Life |

Judging by the number of results ready to send, y'all could do with a little help over here, so I mosied on over. New to LHC, but fairly experienced in the ways of BOINC. I must say, I was a little surprised to receive the message 'Message from server: No work sent (reached daily quota of 16 results)', when the server had only allocated 15 results to host 9644555, but never mind, there's always tomorrow (BTW, what time of day does tomorrow start on this project?). Edit - worked it out for myself: 20 minutes ago. Matched UK time tonite, but daylight saving time ends today in the UK - is it the same in Switzerland? Anyway, good to see some familiar monikers around - I'll get the hang of it eventually. Richard |

Matched UK time tonite, but daylight saving time ends today in the UK - is it the same in Switzerland? Switzerland doesn't matter now... The project servers moved to London a few months ago... And besides, it's based on UTC... As for here in the US though, DST used to end tonight, but it ends next week here at least for a few years anyway. This will be the first year since I've been alive that it will not be completely dark at 7PM on Halloween... |

Matched UK time tonite, but daylight saving time ends today in the UK - is it the same in Switzerland? I think daily quota would get reset at midnight UTC, but lemme check the scheduler sourcecode :) |

(BTW, what time of day does tomorrow start on this project?). Edit - worked it out for myself: 20 minutes ago. Matched UK time tonite, but daylight saving time ends today in the UK - is it the same in Switzerland? I started getting new work at the first request after 23:00 UTC (== 00:00 BST, London time). I <think> the SETI servers reset around 07:00 UTC, or 00:00 PDT - midnight local time zone. So it looks as if the reset is based on local, not universal, time. I was confused by the .ch domain for servers which I'm told are in London. |

Matched UK time tonite, but daylight saving time ends today in the UK - is it the same in Switzerland? Just finished wandering around in the code - took me long to find it. Indeed it uses (server) local time. In case anybody cares: from line 1359 in handle_request.C is where the reset is done. current_rpc_dayofyear is set using localtime() in line 1341 above. EDIT: note this is the current server code, not necessarily matching what LHC runs. |

@ Neasan... I thought you were gonna open the gates a little once you got your new folk interested in the project. I'm not saying all the way, but at least 8 per. With all these WU's coming up as failed (only running for 2 or 3 mins.or less) I'd like the chance to do a little more. A clear conscience is usually the sign of a bad memory |

I think the original use of the quota system was to limit WU's getting trashed by hosts that would crash on running a system that got corrupted. I remember the early days that a couple of PC's would download a wu, exit with an error, then get a new wu and there was no limit to the number of downloads a bad pc would have. Back then, a single PC could screw up results for hundreds of wu's in a day. A good setting would be the number of WU's a typical machine can crunch in a day. That number is variable because sometimes there are 100k turn WU's, and sometimes there are 1 million turn WU's. I'm not the LHC Alex. Just a number cruncher like everyone else here. |

Hello. When you reach your quota for the 24hr period. Set it to recieve no new tasks. Then alter the date : d/m/year of pc. Reboot When o/s reloads accept new wu's regards, John |

When you reach your quota for the 24hr period. No way that can work; it depends on the server date, not your computer's. |

Quota has been bumped up, you will need to work your way upto the new limit (it is a bigger hike than the last time) so I'll let you all work it out. Sorry for the delay we had this thing called a weekend here ;-) be glad I'm not at home, proper countries have a bank holiday today and I'd not have looked at this till tomorrow *bloody non Celtic Britain* |

Sorry for the delay we had this thing called a weekend here ;-) That's the first thing they should abolish. Weekends, who needs them. Working is what you should be doing. Where's the whip? ;-) Jord BOINC FAQ Service |
