How is that set? I don't see that in the general pref. settings. Volunteer Mad Scientist For Life |

You need to apply for the project manager job, that would allow you to modify this setting ;-) The setting is on server side, nothing we crunchers can change. |

MAGIC - YOU urgently need to look at your computers. They are constantly returning "client errors". Everytime this happens it reduces the amount of wu's you are allowed per day. That is in order to reduce the errors for the project, as the affected wu then needs to be sent to someone elses comp. Have you changed something recently? Suggest you set "No new Work" until you get it sorted. It's not the speed, but the quality - Until I get a faster computer. |

No I haven't changed anything. It may say client error but there was no errors on my end of the deal. They worked perfect in May and then that happened and now last night it finally gave me 2 little wu's. And it had no problem running Einsteins 24/7 and anything else I do worked perfect. No changes made but mysteriously the 2 I got will be done in about 3.5hrs total on this dual P4 3.2 and as I said it wouldn't even give my P4 2.5 anything saying it had it's 2 day total.......but it actually didn't get anything. And now as you can see there is no work left................. Back to Einsteins I guess. Volunteer Mad Scientist For Life |

:-) One sec! have you over clocked your machines? :-( LHC does not take kindly to over clocking :-( from experience. Regards Masud. |

The system(s) reports his error messages : <core_client_version>5.4.11</core_client_version> <message> app_version download error: couldn't get input files: <file_xfer_error> <file_name>courier_16_bold_1.01_.tga</file_name> <error_code>-200</error_code> </file_xfer_error> </message> I think a reset project could help. |

I left my PC running and picked up only two WU's in the last batch, about 6 hrs ago. They both have a complete deadline of Aug 8th. Two is good - four would be more good! I'm set for network connect every 1 days - although is usually online for most of the day. For more WU's should this be .1 day? 5 days? I've an Intel 1.6GHz, it's in a Toshiba laptop so I run only at 30% CPU useage to minimize overheating. Is this what's limiting how many WU's I get? The WU currently running is at 49% complete so far. Mike |

MAGIC, I don't know what you've done but one of your machines has returned two results today without errors and so the wu limit per day has now been increased to 4. |

I left my PC running and picked up only two WU's in the last batch, about 6 hrs ago. They both have a complete deadline of Aug 8th. The connect interval determines your cache level. i.e. how many days work is stored on your comp. The higher the number the more wu's you will get. BUT be careful you don't get too many and start missing deadlines in other projects. Personally mine is set to 0.1, but I am on always connected broadband internet. Only having 30% usage set will also reduce how much work your comp gets. If you use the machine for other intensive tasks then 30% is probably reasonable but I have two laptops which I just let run at 100%. One of them has been doing BOINC for over three years now with very few problems. |

I had run BOINC at 100% a while ago, fan ran 100% and it burned out after a few weeks. Was only a couple of years old, luckily still under warranty then, but is not now - so I won't take the chance. |

I run a lappy too, works OK but for when it is docked and it is fairly warm inside (above 25C). It then heats up to sometimes above 65C, so I then throttle it down to 80% or 85%. BOINC throttling is not perfect, but working well enough for me. |

Client Errors Don't know if this applies but I was getting lots of client errors at a machine at work. The problem was the company proxydoesn't allow the downloading of files that end in ".exe". Apparently some of the download file names from LHC (and other boinc projects) ended in ".exe" they always resulted in errors. My solution was to suspend those projects on my work machine :( Your millage may vary, Paul |

I just reattached to LHC after months of being detached, and all I can get is 4 WU's a day. It started off with just 2 WU/day. What's up? This machine has no errors, and is pretty quick. Seems something is amiss on the server side. At least other projects are getting the benefit; I'm sure they are grateful. -Mike |

Not a Whole lot of work from the project + a news thingie so the PM (project managment) expect a lot of new crunchers to be asking for work. You are limited to two WU per CPU per DAY and also how often you ask for work / contact the server. They are trying to spread the wealth so to speak. Yes downloading .exe files is a security risk and is not allowed from your work computer for good cause. Does your work know about and approve of the use of the work computers for BOINC work? If not you are in violation of the BOINC user agreements. Just a little reminder. However if they are in agreement and approve you could perhaps ask your security guys to allow .exe from these server addresses, or perhaps just to you. Client Errors |

Or (once again, IF you have permission) you could bring the .exe in on a USB stick with an app_info.xml file. Then it would only have to download the work unit data files which are not .exe files. - A member of The Knights Who Say NI! My BOINC stats site |

Oy vey.......wu's sitting there wishing they were on my dual machine........telling me to wait.......but still gives my old P4 2.5 extra work. Let the youngster do the work and let the old timer rest! (well actually let it still do some too) Don't make me bust out my old PIII 500 and the dialup! Volunteer Mad Scientist For Life |

That depends on whatever: Message from server: (reached daily quota of 8 results) Is anybody able to explain on what the daily quota depends? In the past, I had never such a message. |
