Is it just like - rename account_lhcathome.cern.ch_lhcathome.xml to account_lhcathome.ph.qmul.ac.uk_lhcathome.xml - replace the master URL tag with http://lhcathome.ph.qmul.ac.uk/ in the account file - exchange all cern.ch with ph.qmul.ac.uk in client_state.xml - restart BOINC ? |

If you are talking about the message on the front page, we users do not have to do anything. The message was just simply informational about what is going on behind the scenes. |

Well, if the master URL will be moved to the new server, we will sooner or later have to do something, except they will keep the front page here upright or forward the whole thing. They created a lhcathome subdomain on ph.qmul.ac.uk though (pingable, no HTTP yet), so I assume that the master URL will move. |

The idea is that to migrate you will have to do nothing! Techincally we will change the cern.ch DNS entry to point to an IP address in the Queen Mary, University of London network (138.37.0.0/16). The rest should then fall into place! Alex Owen LHC@Home server admin |

The idea is that to migrate you will have to do nothing! The best solution, but be forewarned that it could take a couple days for the changes to propagate. No big problem, but people might see some weird stuff during that time (some machines get to the new servers, while other dont, etc) |

The idea is that to migrate you will have to do nothing! Pre-5.8.x clients also cache the IP address. They'll typically need to be closed and restarted to pick up the new address. really glad to hear that things are going. I don't expect that the physical movement of the webserver should cause much trouble. I'd expect the only difference we should see is a different IP Address. How do you plan to do that switching. I expect they will finally update the master DNS server to point to a CNAME for the new server (IP). Of course the propagation will take some time. Will the current webserver be shut down during that time or will you switch them more transparently? To clear all DNS caches on linux you have to resart your name service caching daemon (nscd) and your local dns server (if you don't use the nameservers of your ISP). If you do use the nameservers of you ISP, it may take a while till they will update their records. From what I see from the cern soa record, it should not take more than 20 minutes (if you clear the local cachings). Maurice |

Test post looks good to the outside world ... Internet took a couple of days to recycle to the new settings but we're with you all the way. If I've lived this long, I've gotta be that old |

A minor change, one has to use http://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/home.php now, the old http://lhcathome.cern.ch/home.php doesn't work anymore (both used to be equivalent before). |
