It's getting quiet here in the forum. Is there a lifesign from the admins at all that I've missed? Regards, Sysfried |

It's getting quiet here in the forum. Is there a lifesign from the admins at all that I've missed? Other than this last update from March 22nd. . . http://lhcathome.cern.ch/forum_thread.php?id=2419&nowrap=true#16595 An post once every week or so would be nice to at least show there is some interest in communicating what is going on with the project. (Even if it is nothing.) As an example, SETI started doing a technical update every day or so to keep everyone in the loop as to current issues and progress on long term goals. That approach really reflects a true interest by their admins in keeping their crunchers up to speed. Here is a link to their technical update: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_forum.php?id=21 |

It's getting quiet here in the forum. Is there a life sign from the admins at all that I've missed? 10.000 work units... that's no life sign, dear admins. That's a burp! How about a real life sign? Regards, Sysfried |

Well it´s a shame... It started really nice and hopeful with the new admins and the new server. But now... It looks like all is the same as it was last year... |

Well it´s a shame... I wonder WHY it's so difficult for an admin. to come here, in this forum, 5 minutes/day. Probably, we are a lost world or forgotten ... Do you want to get banned for 31 years, your account and credits deleted at a Boinc project ? Predictor@home is your best choice. |

Well it´s a shame... I fully agree. All we are asking for is a quick update once every two weeks. Either: A. The admins are not reading the forms or; B. They are reading but choosing not to respond. I don't know which is worse. :( |

There is no life here for the present. Even had my Internet line open 24/7 to try and get new work, but I am sure that one day soon this problem will go away. (I hope). |

Just to make that sure - I wasn´t complaining about "oh I get no work", because that´s how LHC works. What I meant is why the admins don´t give us some informations how things are going... After 4 or 5 months on a new server with new admins, there´s still the problem with multiplying host, no stats... Even new Alpha projects are able to export stats, why not LHC? Yeah, LHC might be a very special BOINC installation, but after that long time it must be possible to turn stats export on and do something against the multiplying hosts problem. There were enough users who offered their help... |

[irony / joke = on] 29.04.2007 23:00 UTC Yes it is going even slower than expected. It is still a unique installation of BOINC (very unique) and it's not moving ahead, therefor we give you our current To Do List: * Find database (the former LHC crew left a maze full of puzzles holding the exact location, in chunks of 2048bit blowfish encoded fragments, but we've recently solved it by splitting and issuing the decryption into SixTrack WorkUnits) * Initial Database Migration (actually that's in progress, bad news is that 44TB of Data has to be transferred via 56k, good news is that we're at 28%) * Aquire funding for a test system (as mentioned, we're attending fundraising conferences) * Get test system working with database * Ensure e-mail is working properly (trickier than it sounds, as we've deciced to code our very own EMail technology from scratch, we're currently testing it internally on a non-public Alpha level) * Test migrate again (good news : our Provider has informed us that we're optioned for a line upgrade, hopefully soon allowing a full 768k ADSL - with 44TB of Data to be moved back, our old 56k days should be history by then) * Real migration (this should be rather quick, as we plan to simply move the entire Array instead of transferring its content) * Sort out job submission over AFS by SixTrack User (to this date, this actually remains an oddball, as we - so far - haven't been able to identify what "AFS" stands for, nor where to look for the user "Sixtrack" which we couldn't find in the Userbase. Stay tuned for an update on that...) * Re-Enable work submission (at current progress speeds, we're looking at early 2015 as a realistic estimate, but given the advances we made attending conferences, we may be able to push this forward towards mid-2014) [irony / joke = off] I'm sure the Staff is working on something...somewhere :D PS. I noted a pretty cool Advertisement sporting the LHC in a Print magazine... Too bad it advertised a Network Solution company (I expected to see some BOINC Ad ;) ) Scientific Network : 45000 MHz - 77824 MB - 1970 GB |

[irony / joke = on](This issue has been the most troublesome. The test system refuses to work with the database because it has recently discovered the database's inappropriate attraction to much younger test systems. The current test system has threatened to report the database to the police if it catches the database communicating with one of these underage systems, even if the communication is non-sexual in nature. We are doing our best to arbitrate the situation, and the primary hardware has been moved to a resort where the respective software apps currently attend group therapy twice weekly.)
