Gee, I like you too, Ariel, but I'm not convinced it's working for you. What do you mean by ass wipe and why am I the biggest? I've been D&A free for a long time, never went to AA though. I was just pulling your chain. And yes, I don't always post sober... so it's not entirely working for me. As for being an ass wipe (perhaps the biggest), I will say this: Generally speaking, you are not well-liked by the other forum goers. You, dear Dagorath, are what many refer to as a troll. I, however, don't think you're a troll, but flames tend to emanate from your fingertips without reasonable provocation. When you attack other lhc members with dried blood underneath your fingernails and puss suppurating from your eye sockets, one tends to write you off as a troll. I've read most of your posts on lhc, and I'm convinced that you're about 20 IQ points above most others who post. But there are times you look like a flimsy piece of fabric with sh*t all over it, hence ass wipe. Try to be nice every now and then... it only hurts a little. For example, continuous, neurotic whining about the lack of WUs from lhc just begs the response I gave a few posts up. It's beyond passion, beyond hyper-passion, it's bloody sick and to not call it so does a disservice because they get the impression their behavior is normal and healthy. Although I'd rather tend to take it with humor, this isn't simple whining you're witnessing. People came here to support an Idea and since more than a year now, find the Project claiming be active, but in reality continue to find it dead as a doornail. Visible Progress is zero, updates (if any) come in at a pace that would disgrace any freeware SourceForge Developer. It's all about expectation, and if people are told to "hang in there", that's what they'll simply do (at least most of them). That's not "bloody sick", it's what you get from some of the most dedicated, best bunch of people any Distributed Project can wish for. Had they closed down and just said : We don't expect to have this baby up & running before mid-2007... ...folks would have accepted it (no other choice anyway) and checked in periodically and waited for the projected timeframe. What is wrong here is that this Project is hanging inbetween and going nowhere, for more than a year now. Noone made the decision to shut it off, yet noone made the decision to put an appropriate effort to affect the other either. That's basically what ticks people off, at least the few that remained here to date. Although someone recently called that "the best proof for a successful BOINC Project", I'd call it a "DC Community Test : how long can a BOINC Project last without any maintenance or progress made" I'm surprised it didn't permanently go offline at some point e.g. after a power outage by now, because Staff forgot it was still there. Personally, I don't come here to expect anything running anymore, it's just out of curiosity and time to spend to read through a few Forum threads a week. --------- As for personal "writing techniques", yes, Dragorath has a style of offensive and insulting writing. Instead of calmly presenting his Opinion (which often enough is absolutely valid and worth reading), he seems to "slam it onto your head with a crowbar" once a while... Are you purposely twisting what I said?[/quote] Most people here aren't complaining about the lack (or even sporadic availability) of WUs, but about the lack of any progress reports / updates. As far as evaluating effort and progress on BOINC projects goes you are a nobody with an inflated ego. Your evaluation is not based on reality. The Admins have specifically stated that they aren't working on this project even remotely full-time. That is the reality. The fact they sent out a few thousand WUs last week is proof something is happening behind the scenes. I call it progress. I don't. Sporadic unannounced batches of WUs has been the nature of this project for several months. Nothing has changed, so where is the progress? |

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh  Way back when, this thread was about ... ... which says ....
So, a couple of observations for those who can't be arsed with fact finding for themselves.... 1. There has always been a drip-feed of work for this project - that's why it's good to use within BOINC, you can always do something else in times of "famine". 2. The move from CERN to QMC is a NON-trivial exercise. What knowledge is not currently still in the Alps has been scattered around the world. Only the data and the problems have been migrated to the UK. 3. The "Stats" fault has been in existence for ages (before the migration). It has no scientific significance whatsoever - therefore, it has a priority of "<=0" (that isn't a smiley but it should be ;-) ). No matter how long or loud the whinges, it ain't going to change anytime soon, so get over it. Now, can we please get back to co-operation  Chas - Orme's Tun, Mercia, Albion.  |

Has the app version changed then? (I honestly don't know, my host hasn't picked up any WUs from the last few batches - I don't have it on 24x7) In the past new batches (as I understand it) have been with the same code using different parameters. Since the initial Sixtrack runs were finished some time ago, I guess that this flurry of new WU batches is either related to the problems LHC had a couple of weeks ago, or is part of testing by the new Admins to see that they have the new server set-up etc. working. I could be wrong of course, (and the work could be for a different reason) but it would be nice to know... |

The admins should post stating they are rewriting the entire server side code in a new language called ANAL (a non algorithmic language), developed at QMC just for BOINC Server scripts, which uses COMEFROM instead of GOTO for flow control. Would be fun to watch the KKBs (k00ky kiddie brats) rush off to the other forums and repeat the kewl news for geek points.  Chas - Orme's Tun, Mercia, Albion. |

OK, so they post like "we're tweaking Sixtrack and the result verifier". Is that going to keep the k00ks happy? Probably not. I don't know about the k00ks, but it would keep me happy. Hell, I'd be happy even if they posted "Sorry there has been no progress with LHC, we have been too busy with other work." every couple of weeks. |

Hello... The transition is progressing. Hope to have some more concrete information on the front page soon. The project has been through a number of admin's hands and so information has been spread thinly. Thinks have taken time as I have had to scrape the information together and when I find something out it solves 1 problem but reveals 2 more...
