Hello people and Merry Christmas to everybody It seems i am the first one who has to set the network connect frequency to once in 10 days... Positively was to get a real lot of workunits then, but the problem i had was the deadline :( I loaded the workunits in the morning at 24 Dec but the deadline is at 31 Dec, so i have a chaos, because i need my only one ethernet cable for my laptop while being at a congress in berlin between chrismas and new years eve and will be back as recently as 3 Jan. And i have been soooo glad to have soooo much lhc workunits :( |

And i have been soooo glad to have soooo much lhc workunits :( That's the part you did wrong. If you won't reach deadline in time, don't download so much work. That's what the deadline is for. Project expects work within X days. If the deadline wasn't there, somebody would download literally a thousand workunits and scientists would have to wait a month to get results back. |

It just seemed obvious and consistent to me that i could not get workunits with a shorter period til deadline than dedicated (set in general preferences) period of network disconnectedness. Allright, now i know, it was an outgrowth of my perfectionistic fantasies only. But after all, previously got one or two workunits at once, whereas when set network frequency at once in 10 days, the startling amount of workunits really will be huge. How do you know that in advance while jesus sleeps on? |

Allright, now i know, it was an outgrowth of my perfectionistic fantasies only. Deadline will never be tweaked according to user preferences. But after all, previously got one or two workunits at once, whereas when set network frequency at once in 10 days, the startling amount of workunits really will be huge. How do you know that in advance while jesus sleeps on? However, the server should have sent enough work to fill your cache UNLESS it caused deadline to be missed. I have seen messages like "Not sending work: Won't finish in time" from other projects. I don't know if LHC disabled it (or has such old server software that the feature isn't even there). Interesting report... |
