Welcome! :)

This Boinc continue to tell me "Comunication Deferred" but the Firewall options must be ok,

Look in the message tab to see what is happening, there will be a few lines for each attempt to connect to LHC. If you see

Sending scheduler request to http://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome_cgi/cgi
...
Scheduler request succeeded

Then the firewall is allowing the connection. "Succeeded" includes the case where there is no work sent back to you.

But if you see

No schedulers responded

then it might be the firewall. But please also note that you also get this message if the network cable is unplugged, or if the project server is offline, or if the net is just very busy.

there isn't so mutch work in this times?

That's right. Please see this thread for more info on this.

Hello,

I'm not really a newcomer since I joined this project in July but, due to the fact that there was no work to be done at that time, I detached.

I just re-joined. Is there more work these time ? The project didn't send me wus ... :(

Thanks !

Here I am, the newcomer!

welcome back Anne.

I am afraid your timing is very unlucky - we just had two weeks with a fair number of wu, and back to nothing again.

But please don't detach - the only way to be sure of getting some next time is to keep trying. Set up one or two other projects, keep LHC as well, and your box(es) will keep running your other projects till we get wu here.

More info here.

Well, in fact I tried to get back some time ago but the new server was not ready and it wasn't impossible to get to the project.

All right, this time I won't detach. I joined several other projects in July : Seti@Home, Seti&Home Beta Test, Einstein@Home. So my computer is not lazy ! :)

I'll take a look at some other projects but I must pay attention because of them are not compatible with Mactintosh computers ... :(

Neither are you, by the sound of it.

Joining an alpha or a beta project means you are willing to spend more time than the typical user sorting out mistakes, bugs, etc which are far more common on a beta project.

As far as keeping your box busy, Seti and Einstein are sifficient - both have work almost all the time and the chances of both of them having problems at the same time is small. So if you think only about that then you are already doing enough other projects.

On another front, both those projects have plenty of crunchers for the work they are attempting - Einstein for example currently estimate that 365 days' data collection on their S5 programme will be crunched in a total of 275 days, which they are about half way through.

Many smaller projects will welcome you as you will make a significant difference to their science. Small BOINC projects are springing up all over the place at present, some wanting to get big, others content to stay small.

I have just started a new thread to suggest projects to mix with LHC, and I've suggested two other big projects you might like to look at (or perhaps you already have)

To make sure you get work from LHC next time, give LHC a double share or the resources -- so with your current four projects give LHC 40% and the other three projects split the other 60% in any way you like.

Keep a small queue ("connect every N days") - the default 0.1 days is fine.

If you have a larger queue, then please keep an eye on your box, and if it often goes into "No Work Fetch" mode, then halve the size of your queue ("Connect every N days"). Keep on halving the queue once a week till your box always comes out of No Work Fetch in 2hrs, or until it never goes into it. You do not want to miss out on work because the box is too full of other projects.
