I for one wouldn't cry if this thread went away. Actually one might argue that Dagorath's last post has invoked Godwin's Law and therefore this thread should be locked and left to drop off the front page... But whatever. I wasn't aware of that law before reading of it here. Good thing this thread hadn't been deleted. Is there a similar Law related to how long befroe you see in these threads the request that we all be happy and get along together? With a Kumbaya thrown in? |

I for one wouldn't cry if this thread went away. Actually one might argue that Dagorath's last post has invoked Godwin's Law and therefore this thread should be locked and left to drop off the front page... But whatever. Godwin's law has a loophole that enables an individual to intentionally kill a thread. If a poster is losing a debate for logical reasons, s/he may intentionally (or unintentionally) attempt to invoke Godwin's law if the thread happens to be long. Such an individual may even assume a second identity in the forum to counter-flame. Any other opinions (or keenly pointed rebuttals) will be much appreciated. Peace. Any other opinions (or keenly pointed rebuttals) will be much appreciated. As I've understood Godwin's Law, intentional invocation generally does not cause a successful termination of the thread. For folks who are curious about the history of Godwin's Law, Mike Godwin himself wrote a good article about it here: http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/2.10/godwin.if_pr.html. Enjoy. :) |

As I've understood Godwin's Law, intentional invocation generally does not cause a successful termination of the thread. There are cases in which the intentions of the individual(s) are not known. Sometimes, it is not known even to the law invoker. Many trolls do not realize that they are, in fact, trolls. The line between conscious and unconscious intention is vague at best, and on the Internet... it's a blur. See - once this thread became philosphical, the trolls all went back under the bridge and fell asleep. Yes. And now, our beloved thread once again has a misleading name: "Flame fest 2007". Where are the flames? {sung}"Where are the clowns? Bring in the clowns... well maybe--- next---- yeeeeeeear." Well, well, shouldn't we rename our beloved thread to "SPAM Fest 2007"? :-). Because the more philosophers the more "spam". |

Well, well, shouldn't we rename our beloved thread to "SPAM Fest 2007"? :-). Because the more philosophers the more "spam". What in blazes are you talking about? Spam is commercial promotion. Philosophy is, and has been for nearly 300 years, free to all who care enough to read. Spam is also very good in fried rice, but that's off topic. Without philosophers, the breed known as scientists would not have evolved and the LHC wouldn't even be a concept. Now, the LHC is becoming a reality and the circle of knowledge is closing (bear with me...) String Theory has been criticized as being a philosophy, not a science; the LHC may be able to conduct experiments that support or derail String Theory. And so my tedious philosophical statement concludes. How's that for spam? _______ "Three quarks for Muster Mark!" . . . . . . . - James Joyce, Finnegans Wake . . . . |

It depends on point of view. This post may be considered as spam (I am not reffering to the email spam, personally I use this word for example if lots of posts are accumulating in short time) or as a contribution to the philosophic disscussion. Anyway I am not a native speaker and I find reading and ocassionaly answering in this forum useful for improving my language skills, so please keep this "WHATEVER :-) Fest 2007". What about that fried rice receipt? |

What about that fried rice receipt? Well, it's "recipe" not "receipt", and I truly appreciate that you are so candid about language skills. This thread is a great place to learn English, and I will be happy to help. Be prepared to have someone say something negative about that; ignore them. As for the fried rice recipe, I'm not sure what Quantum was thinking but I have one of my own. Spam Fried Rice 1. Put a very small amount of cooking oil in a wok or large frying pan. 2. Heat oil to medium-high temperature. 3. Add 4 to 6 ounces of thinly sliced or diced Spam (1/2 inch or less.) 4. Cook Spam until light brown or slightly crispy. 5. Add previously steamed white rice and mix until evenly coated with oil. 6. Add steamed green peas, corn, diced carrots, and/or other steamed vegetables. 7. Mix and turn for about 5 to 10 minutes, or until rice begins to clump. Yum. Ariel: Certified "Too Cute for LHC" Cruncher! . . . . . . . . . . . . -- Consider the lilies. |

Stir in a jar of sweet and sour sauce, even better. |

Thanks for your step by step recipe, Ariel. I should try it. - New vocabulary: buttocks, booger, barf and others. From previous lessons I know the nice word troll, but quite ambiguous. |

...peas, corn and rice are basically the same thing, starch. I disagree about peas and corn being basically starch; they have vitamins and fiber. As for Dagorath's fried rice recipe, it makes me want to "barf". No offense, Dago; your help regarding my Linux questions in the Close Account thread was much appreciated. Forgive my differing tastes in cooking, but Ariel's simple recipe sounds pretty good (but not terribly healthy!) At any rate, welcome back comrade. ;) _______ "Three quarks for Muster Mark!" . . . . . . . - James Joyce, Finnegans Wake . . . . |

I run a number of other projects, and periodically check this project to find out if work is available. I have seen a pattern repeating. I visit the website. No work available. Then for a couple days I see unable to connect to the database - too many users. I interpret this to mean there's work but I'm too late - the servers are busy distributing work to the lucky few. Then no work available again. Maybe it's time for me to give up on this project. BYE! |

Yes, it is important to let k00ks know they are k00ks. Otherwise they continue posting their k00k crap. Their nonsense is annoying, antagonising and insulting. It breaks all the rules. Oh god.. that made me laugh so hard I cried. Then I read some more I laughed so hard I farted, and that made me laugh harder! oh god.. whew... thanks for that one. Glad we see eye to eye! |

Then I read some more I laughed so hard I farted, and that made me laugh harder! Mercy. I hope this is supposed to be harshly sarcastic. If you really see eye to eye with the "k00k" rhetoric, I hope your next fart backfires. Ariel: Certified "Too Cute for LHC" Cruncher! . . . . . . . . . . . . -- Consider the lilies. |

Then I read some more I laughed so hard I farted, and that made me laugh harder! I do believe that the people who say 'I feel so helpless that I cannot crunch' are, well.. a little k00k-y.. but.. I would never say it with such flair for the offensive. |

I do believe that the people who say 'I feel so helpless that I cannot crunch' are, well.. a little k00k-y.. but.. I would never say it with such flair for the offensive. Well said. Sorry about the "backfiring fart" rhetoric; I must admit, it was somewhat out of line. Perhaps my offensive flared up a bit, but this is Flame Fest 2007 - - ;) Ariel: Certified "Too Cute for LHC" Cruncher! . . . . . . . . . . . . -- Consider the lilies. |
