I had 4 units, they finished.
Each lasted between 44 and 46 min. Having a dual core, that brings back the unit to 22-23min.

From there, how does those which spend 10 days to run their cache whereas the deadline is 6.5 days????

Thank you, I have the answer to my question!
By charging 43 units on a x86 595MHz whereas one has Xeon 2.00GHz, where there is zero unit! Here how one puts 1 week!

In short: time that you finish 2 units, I made my 4 and passed again at another project!

Oh, I'd be happier if the 43 units were on a
dual 2 GHz Xeon computer.

The dice rolled differently.

Crunching on......

which is why I'd prefer to have the project impose a technical solution that spreads them out more evenly. With 6000 boxes asking for work, each of them several times in each 24hrs, and only 10000 tasks in the new release, there is no need at all to give anyone more than one or two tasks at a time.

I do not criticise you for asking for a bundle of work - my feeling is that it is for the project to impose a technical fix, not to expect users to cut back on cache sizes which may well be large for other reasons.

As you say, it is all on the dice roll. While the project runs it like a lottery, then I will be a gracious loser and congratulate you on your winning ticket.

But I still feel the project could do better not to run it like a lottery. There is a discussion about this in my thread fairer distribution of work

EDITs added cross reference and link to my thread. Typos.

And others like myself get none at all......

My computer requested new work today for about 3 hours straight and I got nothing except the reply:

10/10/2006 9:21:58 AM|lhcathome|Sending scheduler request to http://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome_cgi/cgi
10/10/2006 9:21:58 AM|lhcathome|Reason: To fetch work
10/10/2006 9:21:58 AM|lhcathome|Requesting 17280 seconds of new work
10/10/2006 9:22:02 AM|lhcathome|Scheduler request succeeded
10/10/2006 9:22:02 AM|lhcathome|No work from project
10/10/2006 9:22:02 AM|lhcathome|Deferring scheduler requests for 1 minutes and 0 seconds

(In the beginning it was requesting new work every minute and as time went on it started spacing the requests out.)

10/11/2006 12:27:49 AM|lhcathome|Sending scheduler request to http://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome_cgi/cgi
10/11/2006 12:27:49 AM|lhcathome|Reason: To fetch work
10/11/2006 12:27:49 AM|lhcathome|Requesting 17280 seconds of new work
10/11/2006 12:32:00 AM|lhcathome|Scheduler request failed: HTTP internal server error
10/11/2006 12:32:00 AM|lhcathome|Deferring scheduler requests for 2 hours, 4 minutes and 12 seconds

Over and over....

At least it's good to see some of you are getting WU's. I just wish I was getting a few of them.

Sometimes the dice roll differently, and none of
my machines get any work out of the current set.

Rough experimentation led me to set the cache size
at 3 days as being the optimal point on my work curve.

Ladyzguy: please could you modify your sig to remove the four-letter word. I've just had to explain your epithet to my 4yo boy, with the caveat that he's not to use the word. The justification for this was that you're probably not a very nice person. I'm sure that's not true, so please don't make me lie again.

Thanks

Look don't blame me for you lying to your kid... That's just totally rediculous . All you had to do was ask me to remove it because it was offensive to you, but to state that you had to lie to your kid because of me is absurd and I resent that. And you further show how rediculous it is by stating to him "that I'm probably not a very nice person" You don't know anything about me.

I'm beginning to think you all here are a bunch of whining idiots. We all are supposed to be adults, (generally speaking) but lets see now, you posters don't like the way I post on the boards here, when all I was doing was trying to let the original poster of this thread know he was not the only one who was having issues with the WU's (or lack therof) and now my sig is offensive to your 4 year old, so I must change it. How you explain life's mysteries to your kids is your business just don't blame me for what I'm sure is not the first time nor probably the last time he/she will be exposed to what's in it. Jeeze you guys need to get a real life. Once again of all the boards I'm subscribed to, this one takes the cake....

(by the way that sig line is the same one I use on all my boards and this is the only place that's ever complained about it)

the msgboard is not complaining.
only one single member is.
i personally have no problem with your sig and i agree that lying to your kids about this stuff is somewhat weird.

Ladyzguy - this world runs on mutual respect. You don't know who might read your posts or when, so have some respect for the rest of us and keep your four-letter words for an environment where you can be sure that offence won't be caused. I'd guess you don't have children, or you'd understand my comments.

Thank you for changing your sig, though. I appreciate it.

I agree too!

dbernat: Put your cache on 0.1! At least on the x86!
It you will need how long to run 43 units? There you remain 35!

To provide work again relatively usually, one speaks about launching the Garfield program.

LHC@home-wiki@CERN

Hmm, the Boinc Meetings stopped in late spring this year - or at least there were no more minutes published. I hope the GridPP community will push the development of new LHC@home appliances a little bit.

Best,

"No work" is not a problem on this project, see this thread

Consider yourself lucky if you do get a WU (or 43). Happy crunching.
