Hi there,

I had some issues with lhcathome on one of my machines (WinXP, BOINC 5.4.11), so I detached and reattached to the project. But now, each time the machine reconnects to ask for new work, a new ID is assigned to that computer (see
my computer page. I suppose this is not desired behaviour. Can I do something about that? At first I tried to merge the machines, but I have given up on that...

Thank you in advance for your help.

This can occur if BOINC can not update the various parameter files for the project. This can happen if the permissions are not set up correctly, like if you installed BOINC as a Admin account, and now trying to run with a user account.

Hm, I doubt that this is the problem. BOINC is running as the systems account on Win XP, SYSTEM has full access to BOINC directory (I even made sure that that property is propagated downwards in the directory structure). I even ran BOINC as the Administrator account used to install - no avail.

But I found a workaround. I stopped the client and manually edited the client_state.xml (which is - by the way properly updated). There the hostid for this project was reported as "0", which I changed to the number of a created host.
Fired up boinc - et voil: problem solved.

Thank you anyway for your reply - it helped to point me in the right direction.
