16.6.2006 15:47 UTC
Due to a network renumbering of a part of the CERN network, the LHC Home servers are going to be unaccessible on next Tuesday morning, 20th of June. Access should be reestablished in the afternoon. Sorry for the inconvenience.

We can not send or recieve right now but will be able to later today (or tomorrow)

Yeah that is just the way the LHC server tells you that the server is down right now and telling you that even though your computers are trying to keep sending they will not be able to right now.

You will notice your "message" list will just keep going as long as they try to connect to the LHC server.

Typical with LHC.

Mine is doing the same right now and all of mine are finished so I just switch over to doing only Einstein work.

Thank you, guess it is a waiting game, have read some other threads and that seems to be common, shame really, do you think this method ie small amounts of work and then breaks allows them to analys results faster than a project that is permanantly returning thousands of results a day , or is it just a small project with limited resources in comparison to other projects (spot the newbie )

Backoffs are failed host attempts to connect to the server. In this context, the host program has tried to connect too many times and must reset itself by getting a new copy of the master file in an attempt to "realign" the host with the client.

Because the server is down, that also failed and the error message is the same (a bit stupid really, not very good programming - missed exception handling - needs another ELSEIF or similar). I'm a B/A, can you tell? ;-) I also talk like that!
