When will we be able to run the other works of LHC?

ALICE
ATLAS
CMS
LHCb

Was only during the periods when sixtrack is without WU.

Maybe 'Garfield'-application, as Chrulle suggested in another thread:

Thanks for all your support of LHC@home. It has really helped the accelerator people. It looks like there is a possibility of other programs (Garfield a.o.) running on lhc@home next to SixTrack. This will help mitigate the intermittent work problem.

Hi Jack H

Now there's a coincidence - I was just looking at your computers and now I see a post from you!

We shared a WU recently that (sadly) failed for me, which was why I was looking at your details on the website. Thank you for leaving them visible, it helps a lot when this kind of problem happens.

The problem with porting most of these experiments' software is the very large computing environments they require, which would be hard to export to most crunchers' machines. Added to which they are almost all developed only on Linux, which makes them less attractive as BOINC projects where around 90% of crunchers run Windows.

We are looking at other software applications that are important for the LHC Project. "Garfield" is one of these, as mentioned by littleBouncer below - this simulates complex gas flow problems for the accelerator and detector systems. We plan to run quite a bit of Garfield work soon, starting on some in-house BOINC clusters for testing, with production later if it goes well.

The particle transport simulator GEANT4 has been ported and running it could make sense for relatively simple material configurations. To be followed...
